Honey? The toilet isn't draining right...and it's making funny noises.

When water's coming out of the bath tubes, you got a more serious problem than clogged toilets. You gonna need to hire the pros. This sounds like sewage pipe clogging a little snake can't fix.
 
Sounds like my issue. My washing machine runs into the same line with my shower. This little rubber stopper INSIDE of the drain is all sorts of messed up...so whenever someone does laundry, it is like a geyser coming out of the shower drain. Fuck.

Snake your main drain. Rent a seasnake if you want to see what's down there. Could be rooted. Cutters will clear it but those roots keep coming back. Hopefully the line doesn't run under pavement. If pipe bursting is an option it prevents losing the pavement but is expensive. (get pics/video!)
 
Every once in a while I respond to those types of statements with a, "So what are you going to do to fix it?"



It's good to test my pain tolerance levels periodically.

That's common. He's in CA so "Orangeburg syndrome" likely does not apply. If the pipe has a belly (sag) it could be trapping waste and backing up. When this happens a snake job fixes it briefly as it will slowly clog again and the process repeats. If the run isn't near any hazards (like natural gas lines!) he could rent a backhoe and dig it himself. I'm sure he's more than qualified to do that. 🙂
 
Lots of lulz in here...

I got up this morning and everything has drained...for now.

I have a 25 foot sewer auger that I'm going to try first...if that doesn't get it, (and I don't think it will) the neighbor has a 50 foot powered auger that we're going to try.

Fortunately, I have 3 clean-outs on the house to work with, so MAYBE I can get this myself.

NO septic tank. (thank gawd...I hate digging those up)

What about the clean out at the street. I'd open that one 1st. The last problem we had was the city's fault.

No access IIRC. I'll try everything here on my property first.

I'm being lazy and waiting for it to warm up a bit before I go play in sewer water.

I don't think it's blocked too far down. (famous last words) I now think the water in the bathtubs was just from flushing the toilets...and the Drain King I had tried in the clean-out...but couldn't get it to go far enough to pass the bathroom clog. It's probably just past the 2nd bathroom, which affects both since they're on the same line.
I'll have a better idea later today.

3:00AM? I believe I've got it figured out. There's a CDV next door and a bazillion cops show up. Mrs B gets scared it's a raid because Mr B hasn't been quite following the letter of the law. She flushed all of his mary jane down the toilet. All 12lbs of it. Still in the plastic wrap.

my parents are dealing with this same problem and at this point the most likely cause was a tree that was planted directly above the septic tank so the roots have filled the drainage field. the tree was removed a few weeks ago but obviously the issue will persist for a while.
