Have you EVER had to use your gun to prevent a crime?

I know this is the sort of thing most of ATOT creams in their shorts just thinking about but I'd like honest responses only.

I'm of the opinion that nearly all gun owners have never had to use one for this purpose let alone actually shoot someone. I know I haven't and I've owned guns personally for more than 20 years now.

Edit-Crap...forgot to add the pole. 🙄

The FBI says that 2,000,000 Americans defend themselves with firearms every year.

Nope, but I know people who have. The pastor at my mom's old church shot a guy three times in the chest with a .357 when he found the guy in his house after he returned home from dinner with his wife.

The dude lived. 😵

According to the FBI, approximately 80-85% of people shot with handguns live. Moral of the story? Do it right, use a rifle. 😀

LOL... I would think a .357 three times to the torso would be more than right. Some guys just get lucky.

A former marine sniper wrote a book and talked about the only guy who ever survived one of his shots. He shot the guy TWICE with a Barrett .50 cal and the guy lived. Usually people just fly apart when they get hit with that thing... this guy lived.

crazy beaver is the worst kind of beaver

You know, I did have a racoon that broke into one of the window well's of my house, we was staring at me through the basement window... I scared him away, but the idea of shooting it did cross my mind (same bastard likes to tip over my garbage cans!)....

Christ, did he just hit his limbs or something? I'm not sure I'd want to live from most of the .50cal shots I've seen.

I had to draw on someone once in the park, while walking my dog. I would have drawn on a couple burglars at home once as well, but I was only about 17 at the time and had no gun near me so I used a sword instead. I drew and fired at a rabid (or at least overly excited) raccoon that was attacking our dog in the back yard. I have drawn dozens of times to investigate noises and what not, though not specifically 'on someone'. I've had to draw numerous times as a part of work as well, though only a few times actually 'on someone'.

So, some of it was definitely to prevent a crime, some was in case/or possibly to prevent a crime.

Yep, its a thinly-veiled troll thread. But when he gets called on it, he cries foul. He knows what he's doing.

No CCW here (illegal in IL, but I do own a handgun), Never "had" to use it.

cross your fingers!

I sold my glock 17 this weekend and ordered a new 4th gen glock 19 just in case :awe:

ok, well thats just an excuse to get a new glock, but it worked

No. I ve drawn my weapon and disengaged the safety under concealment in preparation for several close calls, but the threat was able to be diffused without it being revealed that I was even armed.

Ive been in situations that I did not invite upon myself where I didn't have a gun and knew I was absolutely fucked if things escalated, and I will never experience that feeling ever again.

Given that the second amendment starts out with "A well regulated Militia," I'd like to see CCWs a bit more regulated and tied into some type of civil defense. I'd like to see more training for CCW holders for situational awareness. Like, 10-20 hours of instruction to get it, and then a couple hours a month to stay current. Former law enforcement & combat veterans could be exempt from the training requirement. Also, I'd like to see tied into local law enforcement dispatch, so if there is a school shooting or something, they could be notified, or call in themselves.

Having a CCW be easier to get than a Drivier's license is pretty dumb, imho.

a CCW is not easier to get than a DL
Most cops need more firearms training. Why should they be exempt from your training scenario after they retire?

I had to draw on and shoot a wild dog that had mange. Called the DNR and they came and got the dead animal. Turns out it had rabies.

I hope and pray I never have to use it to shoot someone.

My brother had to pull a gun out to defend himself from a group of thieves with knives. He probably would've gotten stabbed if he was unarmed.

they should have to keep their skills current. Just as any surgeon is required to renew their license throughout their career. Why shouldn't a cop meet certain skill requirements to maintain such a license?

No permit needed for conceal carry in AZ as of last year. Not only has violent crime not increased as a result, it has been sliding to an all time low since before the no permit conceal carry took effect.

that was my point. His proposed changes made former cops exempt from having to train or retest.

Cars are more complicated to maintain, more complicated to use, and kill many times more people.

In some states it is. Pay the money, hand over the application with prints, get the license 7 days later. No test, no classes, and almost no exceptions. Granted, other states are more difficult, but not all.
