I am not entirely sure. The website is sort've vague, eh?
It doesen't seem to say anything about horsepower or anything.

Definitely much more than 1.5 - 3HP.
My scooter will do 40MPH.. although it has very little hill climbing power with such a low gear ratio.
Man, I miss 'er.. she's been out of commission for a couple of years... something wacky with the engine.
I got a damn lemon. Only 40 hours on the engine and now she won't start anymore. I'm a damn small engine mechanic and it has me perplexed..
I've been meaning to send it off to the shop and get her up and running again. Gotta love 75+MPG.![]()

How much power does that beast have? My guess is eight horsepower.

Stock, the Honda GXH50 puts out a whopping 2.5HP @ 7000RPM.
Those type of little scooters only have 1 gear though, so they're not even comparable to a street-legal scooters like you're looking at ... more of a fun toy than anything.
Oregon treats them like bicycles though, and Portland has very good bike access.. so it is possible to use them for transportation.
I've only seen a turbocharger on a small engine once...Originally posted by: Googer

I am going to go little off topic but not by far.
I have a Honda HRM-210 Lawn Mower. It is a Piece of **** when it comes to cutting grass, the engine has no power. Do you know how to tweak some more juice from it or where or How I could fit a small turbo charger to it? Unlike my Old  Kawasaki 4.5 Honda engines never seem to have any serious torque.

Isn't that just the most badass thing you've ever seen? LOL
As for the lawnmower... you'd be surprised at what a blade sharpening can do. If you haven't done it in a few seasons, look into it... it can make a lawnmower a completely new machine.

If you go for a wussy 'twist-and-go' gearless 50cc scooter, you're going get about 40mph tops out of it. The transmission in those things kill the power output. The maximum speed you're going to get out of any 50cc is about 50 -> 55mph (wind depending). You can buy motocross style bikes such as the derbi which have decent suspension, brakes and tyres which keep things much safer than the piddly little bicycle-tyres of scooters. I'm sure you'll agree they're much less girly, too.
Back in the day I had a an older version of these derbis and they're really not bad for a 50, although the reliability was low due to me being only 16 and ragging the crap out of it all the time. The 95 Derbi sendar had 8HP at the flywheel (derestricted).
Now I've gone for a NSR 125 which is massively quicker. I've dropped the gear ratio down a fraction (two teeth larger on the rear sprocket) and it accelerates like a beast. 0 -> 60 is about 4.5 seconds. It pushes out roughly 35BHP at the flywheel. There's a massive difference between a 50 and a 125.
I'd say go for a 125: if you want a bike that gives you a real buzz and can take 450cc 4-strokes, go for the RS, Mito or NSR if you can find one.
Don't bother with the metro scooter.

Dughhhh.... You are missing the point to my inquirey into a scooter. I am looking for local transportation, I only drive 5-8 miles to get to work and gas prices are 3.25 per gallon and spend $35-$40 a week on gasoline. I am not after speed, so 0-60 does not matter for me. I need something practical and the Metropolitan has storage space for me to carry my things to work and do my shopping localy. 40MPH is as fast as I need to go, Florida is so full of old ladies driveing Golf Carts and Grand Marques that there is no point in passing becase the next car that will be in front of you wont be going much faster than 35. At least with a scooter I can skip the streets and drive on the local golf cart trails.
My other reason for thinking about a metro is the cost, a new one runs less than $2000 and a 50cc sport bike costs 3,500 and it isn't even road legal.
If I was willing to spend more money I would probably get a Silverwing or Big Ruckus, but I am not willing to spend more than $2,100. Also in Florida anything over 50cc requires a motorcycle licence that I am not willing to take the time to get.
If the Metropolitan is girly, then what do you think of the Honda Ruckus?

Well I agree with you that the scoot scoots are more practical, eg you can shove your helmet under the bag.
The derbi's are fuly road legal and are much more stable and safer IMO, but it would appear they're not up for you.
The Honda Ruckus looks pretty cool I guess, but it appears to have drum brakes F&R. It also doesn't appear to have the under-seat storage that makes scooters so practical.
Ehh... it's up to you of course. Whatever you do, at least derestrict it! Be careful though, I knew this tard who cut his HT lead thinking it was going to the 'ecu' that was restricting the bike (turns out it was just the coil). Made me laugh, though.

Also, be careful altering the carb of your scoot/50cc: these things are two stroke and can die quickly if the oil concentration is not perfect.
