I do not think derbi is a brand avlable in the USA. I have never heard of them nor can I find a distributor anywhere in the local 50 states. Also I belive the Honda you suggested must be a European Model, to the best of my knowledge two stroke engines are not legal for street use. You can own one but it can only be used on a race track.

Also, be careful altering the carb of your scoot/50cc: these things are two stroke and can die quickly if the oil concentration is not perfect.

I do not think it matters much on a four stroke metropolitan/ruckus. There is no oil or gas to mix.

yeah... honda aren't making 2-strokes any more... it's all about emissions and that. They've stopped making the NSR as of last year :( x 1000 The replacement is wussier than a man sandwich, too... It really should only be available in pink.

2T are illegal in the US? Anyone else know about this? What about in model cars, etc?

Alternatives to the derbi:

Aprilia RX 50
DT-50
Rieju SMX 50
Gas Gas SM 50 (it's american!)

For the money you are willing to spend - get yourself a very nice touring/hybrid push bike with all the kit (protection, clothing, lights, etc, etc). Save loads of money. no gass prices involved at all - plus you want look like a pansey boy with a 49cc scooter.

On my Ridgeback I average 26mph to and from work, get fit and killer looking quads and thighs

After talking to one local Honda dealer today, I am thinking of going the used route and spending the money I saved on performance parts like an 85cc cylander, larger carburator, and what ever else might provide a good bang for the buck. Local Laws say 50cc is the max you can buy with out haveing a motorcycle endorsement and I do not want one. But no one will know about my extra displacement secret. I think this solution is cheaper and faster, plus used scooters hold their resale value much better than new ones.

2T? Are you referring to two stroke? You can own a two stroke engine and they are not going anywhere but as far as I know you just cannot operate a new model two stroke engine on the street, they are regulated to track use only.

When I was at the Honda Dealer today, I looked at 50cc Dirt Bikes and I even sat on one. It was way too small for someone who is six feet tall, I looked like an Idiot on wheels the Metropolitan had a much better fit and appearance for a full sized adult. 50cc Dirt Bikes are for kids.
