Note, the following is a comparison of Honda only to other japanese makes.
1)if you want quality, toyota has a much better history of quality.
2)if you want sporty vehicles, Nissan has a much better history of sporty vehicles.
3)if you want well designed vehicles, Mazda's have consistently had the more innovative design.
why was it that honda took off?
4)mostly because of mediocrity. their preludes have consistently been failures. the Minivan was a disaster untill the 2nd generation. they don't have the quality of toyotas, innovative design of mazda or the sportiness of Nissan.
boo honda.
3. "Design" is subjective. I like the new accords and c06 civic design. Mazda just started to revamp there lineup recently.
Oh yeah, mazda is a joke, if anything is overrated, it's mazda and their engine outputs fiasco. You'd think they would have learned their lesson from the miata, but then they do it again with the RX-8. link
And for all the buzz about the RX8 when it came out, it ended up being a sorry ass car. It burns up to a quart of oil every 1K miles while guzzling gas like a V8, getting sub 20 mpg but having less torque than even a 4 cylinder accord. Also, it's slow, last year at the drag strip I saw an RX8 running low 16s, while getting run down by some civic at the same time.
Mazda innovating my ass. Hell the V6 they use in their 6 they just stole a short block from ford, despite being short on power to toyota, honda and nissan and called it good enough.
Now that the SAE is going to audit manufacturer HP numbers in order for manufacturers to get certification, I'm really curious how mazda is gonna come out from this.
