Note, the following is a comparison of Honda only to other japanese makes.

1)if you want quality, toyota has a much better history of quality.

2)if you want sporty vehicles, Nissan has a much better history of sporty vehicles.

3)if you want well designed vehicles, Mazda's have consistently had the more innovative design.

why was it that honda took off?

4)mostly because of mediocrity. their preludes have consistently been failures. the Minivan was a disaster untill the 2nd generation. they don't have the quality of toyotas, innovative design of mazda or the sportiness of Nissan.

boo honda.

3. "Design" is subjective. I like the new accords and c06 civic design. Mazda just started to revamp there lineup recently.

Oh yeah, mazda is a joke, if anything is overrated, it's mazda and their engine outputs fiasco. You'd think they would have learned their lesson from the miata, but then they do it again with the RX-8. link

And for all the buzz about the RX8 when it came out, it ended up being a sorry ass car. It burns up to a quart of oil every 1K miles while guzzling gas like a V8, getting sub 20 mpg but having less torque than even a 4 cylinder accord. Also, it's slow, last year at the drag strip I saw an RX8 running low 16s, while getting run down by some civic at the same time.

Mazda innovating my ass. Hell the V6 they use in their 6 they just stole a short block from ford, despite being short on power to toyota, honda and nissan and called it good enough.

Now that the SAE is going to audit manufacturer HP numbers in order for manufacturers to get certification, I'm really curious how mazda is gonna come out from this.

.

 I have 235k+ on my 88, and the only thing I've had to do is replace the trans (guy before before me broke it by putting gear oil in it). It even survived a 3200 mile run from WV to Tx and back to WV the same month I put the new trans in.

I  Accords. I'd buy a TL or new Accord in a heartbeat if I could get a manual.

honda overrated....hahaha.

honda has one of the world's premiere R&D labs and applies technology to their cars better then 99% of the car companies. imo,

- toyota is a great company, but they are a ginormous marketing machine.
- mazda is not even in the same league as H and T.
- nissan is good but don't compare their reliability and quality with H and T.
- subaru is niche but their cars are very good.
- mitsu is on the verge of extinction.

most importantly, honda cares about the environment and it's employees. how many US employees has honda laid off in the past 30 years?? i'd rather buy products from a company like honda and costco before any of the others!

ps, http://world.honda.com/run/mov-run-60.html - it can run, water plants, operate a phone, climb stairs, recognize voices/faces.....and i hear toyota is trying to build one now too ;)

how's that for overrated /rant off

two words = resale value. (excluding toyota of course)

HYPE.

the hype drives up the market value which in turn keeps resale value high.

i personally have never purchased a car for resale value, of course every car i've ever traded in had over 150k on it so wasn't much value left.

Exactly. Cars are the worst investment ever, so I don't usually base the purchase of my cars on how much I can sell them for...

Correction, computers are the worst investment ever. They go down in value in like a day... oh well..
