i've only been a homeowner since september, so i'm still a noob to it, but the past 2 weekends i've been doing a lot of yardwork to clear out my backyard to make it more open, and the prior owners didn't care at all about the yard.

last weekend i cut down some trees with my bro in law who has a chainsaw and other tools, then we cleaned out the corners where a buncha ivy and bushes and crap were growing that just looked nasty. after all that we sprayed the chemical that kills everything where all the crap was, to kill everything.

today i spent like 3 hours getting all of the dead crap up and filled up 12 of those 30 gallon bags from home depot. i was sneezing literally every 10 or so seconds at certain times cause i have awful allergies, but i worked through it.

and the thing is, i actually don't mind doing it and enjoyed it. i think it is because when you see the end result it actually looks nice and it's rewarding to see it coming along. there is still a lot of work to be done and once all of the plants are dead in those areas i'll eventually start trying to grow grass there. i also need to get rid of quite a few stumps now too.

but in general i usually hear people complaining about doing yardwork, but i've enjoyed what i've done so far. it also helped that today it was like 65 all day and i WANTED to be outside.

so do you like doing yardwork or hate it?

Not really, I pay for maintenance now - spring/fall cleanup and mowing every other week.

I despise it, and I do very little. My biggest peeve is mowing the lawn. I did that today, and hated it as usual. I need to plant corn or something; maybe tobacco :^D

I have been doing yard work for about 4 years now and enjoy it very much. I like to be outside, regardless of how hot it is. If it is below 50 though, I try to spend as little time as possible outside.

Trick is to garden wisely. If you hate weeding an area plant something that will out compete the weeds.

I have a field of daisies on one side of my property, they out compete everything, and all I have to do is cut them down when they fall over. I get lovely blooms most of spring - fall. I also have several areas with bulbs that don't require much if any weeding, and they are simple to maintain as well. Just cut them down in the fall.

I enjoy it, but I just don't have the time between work, sailing, hockey, lifting, softball, soccer, trying to date, and other social stuff. If it was practical to do it at night, I would do it then. For now my lawn is a mix of grass and weeds that I just mow every week. :\

Havent had the chance to try it yet... i only have two small gardens though so shouldnt be too bad.

If it turns out to be pretty boring and lame ill just kill everything with industrial strength weed killer or whatever and call it a day until next year :)

I love it! I take pride in a nice looking yard. I try to keep the lawn well manicured and weed-free.

I live in a condo, I have some plants on the balcony that I water daily. That's about it.

Mint will out compete most plants.

Love it. It's wonderful exercise to boot. Now, give it 20-25 years and I'm in my 50s...I'll be paying people to do it for me

Today was OK so I mowed my yard, trimmed it then did the neighbors for $40, took about 1.5hrs so $26,60/hr is OK with me, helps that I have a small riding mower.. :p

I love it. I have a veggie garden, multiple flower gardens, bunch of container gardens on the deck. This weekend I completed my raised bed poject, planted tomatoes, potatoes, onions, beans, etc etc etc. Also redid a flower bed with all new plants and finished up a raspberry patch.

Don't own a home, but would mow the lawn occasionally when I lived with my parents. Hated it passionately. If I get a house I will just pave over everything.

Love the gardening but with so little time to do it between all other activities, the most I can manage now is keep the lawn nice and trim. The garden beds OTOH looks horribly overgrown. Pity the roses and dahlia cannot outgrow the weeds and whatever flowers they can produce are obscured. I intend to take a day or two off just to rejuvenate the beds and make them my pride once again.

I hate it. I even bought a riding mower this year, mainly to get a bagger for the leaves in the fall. Spending two weekends getting leaves up sucks. Prior owners neglected it bad. When we moved in last year spent many weekends getting it somewhat straightened up. Caught poison oak not once but twice doing it. Now we need to do the landscaping around the house that looks horrible now. It'll be a summer long project.

Don't think your city would allow for that unless you asked for a zoning variance.

Buy some goats.

I've given it consideration. I've wondered if shock collars would keep them on my property. There's also local ordnances to consider. I don't see why people should be allowed to keep noisy, stinky dogs, but goats are a problem.
