Hmm sounds like there is something wrong with your center channel. Is sound coming out from it? Make sure it is hooked up correctly. You also might want to check if there is a way to boost the sound from just the center speaker only.

ok i got the center speaker problem sorted out finally. I tryed hooking my DC up to the front free inputs on my reciever and the title above them was "VCR 2" and the i turned my reviever to "VCR 2" and i got great sound but no picture even when i turned my TV to Video/Input , now there was an S-Video port on the front of the reciever beside the free inputs, but i didnt think i needed to get annother S-Video cable or do I?
Also earlier when i was asking about the volume level on my speakers when i thought the sound should be louder u said that i should check if they were set to Small or Large, what did u mean by this and what might this option be labeled?
thnx

Since you are hooking up your DC with normal RCA connections, you'll also need to hook up your receiver's Monitor Out connection with the RCA connection to another Video Input on your TV. So if your Monitor Out S-Video is hooked up to Video 1 on your TV, hook up the Monitor Out RCA connection to Video 2 on your TV and use that when you want to play your DC or watch tapes on your VCR.

Or, you can hook up your DC to your receiver with an S-Video cable and use the RCA connections for the audio and you'll be just fine with your current setup, however, since your VCR isnt hooked up to your receiver using S-Video cables, you'll still need to hook up your Monitor Out RCA connection to your TV.

If your TV doesnt have another set of Video Inputs, then you might need to buy a box of some sort to let you switch video inputs. Dont try hooking up the Monitor Out S-Video and RCA connections to the same Video Input, it wont work.

About the speaker volume, there should be a setting on your receiver that designates your speakers are "small" or "large". I dont know if its a menu setting or a knob, I think its most likely a menu setting. This might affect the volume coming out of your speakers since you feel that they arent quite loud enough.

Ok but if i hook my recievers moniter out to my TV with annother set of RCA cables will this be a problem with the S-Video cable using annother moniter out going to my TV now? On the back of my reviever there is a space for RCA cables just called "TV" so i would probly put them there i assume. My TV does have annother set of inputs on the back as well. The only thing i dont want to happen is for the DVD to get its picture through this new connection rather then the S-Video one i have setup right now. Is that even a possibility or do i not even have to worrie about doing this?

EDIT- Would you recommend getting annother set of S-Video cables for consoles or is it not that necessary?

You wont have to worry about that, the DVD player's video signal will only run through the S-Video cable. Your VCR and game system's video signa will run through the RCA cable. You could get an S-Video cable for your game system, but I'm not sure if you would really notice a video difference on your TV. It depends on how big your set is, the bigger the TV, the more likely you will see a difference. I'd say that if you have a 32" set or bigger, you probably would see a noticable difference, but if you're happy with the way it is now, then you should be ok. Unless you are obsessed with having the best possible picture.

Just glancing through the thread briefly, I'll say this on reading manuals: the manual for my Pioneer receiver is not exactly coherent and rather sparse on information. I still have yet to figure out why my Optical Audio connection only works for CDs and not for DVDs (any ideas?). With Digital selected when the DVD is playing, there's no sound (if I disconnect the RCA connectors, there's no sound).

I think it might be related to my lack of surround speakers at the moment, which should be rectified shortly. I'm not sure though.
