Home office furniture/desk

So I've had the same cheap 72" folding table as my home office computer desk for the last 11 years, and I'm thinking it's probably time to consider an upgrade. Currently in the office I have a 27" iMac and a gaming PC using a 30" 2560x1500 monitor (soon to be swapped out in favor of the Acer G-Sync 34" ultrawide 3440x1440 when it comes out), so the desk needs room for all of this and a laptop as well. I'm looking for quality over cheap.

A coworker turned me on to http://www.biomorphdesk.com/, where he bought an adjustable standing desk that he loves. I'm thinking something more along the lines of:

Any other suggestions?
 
Take some sheets of paper and create a dummy pattern of the desk space where you intend on having it. Place the pattern on the floor. Then re-arrange any furniture supporting the area.

Those types take up a lot more room than one realizes for a home office
 
Search your local used office supply companies and look for auctions that list office furniture. I picked up a 1966 Leopold solid walnut wood desk in auction a few years ago for ~$150.

If you are even a little handy you can build a custom desk out of wood and steel pipe pretty easy.

Because... it's a "home office" and.. comfortable high quality desk/chair, maybe? Here at work I have an adjustable standing desk and I like it, and these look even better.

A long time ago I used to use a countertop with with shitty lumber structure above for holding 3x 19 inch CRTs and a 27 inch CRT on a shelf above the 19inch CRTs.

A few years ago I replaced all that with an Ikea 'FREDRIK'

Currently I only use it with 1 PC, 1 keyboard, 1 mouse, and have 3x 21.5 inch monitors set up for gaming eyefinity. Its got ample room that I could upgrade to 3x 24 or 25 inch displays if I play with the angles a bit.

You could do 1 of these desks along 1 wall, and then a table along another with laptop and more monitors and such ..

or you can use a table, and get some wall mounts for the screens ...
 
Slap some white or black carbon-fiber vinyl on table top. Repaint the legs - copper, champagne, luminous pear, etc. Maybe some fretwork between the supports - lol.

That's awesome, even more so if those organ pipes are actually part of the sound system.

The desks posted seem to offer little working space for the total space they consume. Personally I'd try to go with something big and flat and more uniform shape.

Heh.. I saw that the other day somewhere while looking through desk ideas. It's awesome! I imagine it being Professor Moriarty or Captain Nemo's command center. 🙂

And yeah, you're right about that first photo. I'll keep digging for ideas.

There's something called the BEKANT with a electric motor-adjusted height changing thing. They just came out with the SKARTA which uses a hand-crank.

I prefer the GALANT. Too bad they only come in white now.

I want one of those Bekant models. It wouldn't be a desk for my gaming system but perhaps for a laptop work station with permanent monitors or something.

You want the basic model or the motorized one?

I'll admit, the motor is interesting, but I hate change so I'd set it at a certain height and never touch it again... The hand-crank model is half the price of the BEKANT, I may consider getting that.

Motorized. Hand-crank and I'll give up on it after awhile, lol.

With the motorized, I'd appreciate taking turns sitting and standing. Neither is good to do all day long, so it would be nice to shake it up over time.
 
I like the old government issue wood desks, but they aren't as easy to find as they used be. Makes me sad thinking about the great furniture that just got tossed in the dumpster, cause "hey, it's not my money" :^S

I think the BEKANT replaced the GALANT. Or is slowly replacing it.

i found a adjustable deskset from a used office furniture store, got a great deal.
the hand crank is removable, but the head is a standard 3/8 inch ratchet head.
if i really wanted to change heights often i would just use a battery powered hand drill or angle driver with a ratchet adapter. much easier and cleaner than the wires and power cord running out of the herman miller desk at my old workplace.

They kept it around minus all the options for some reason. It's still available in white but only with two rectangular options, no more extra pieces of L-shaped. Doesn't seem like it's just to get rid of remaining stock.
