Word. The gun goes on when the pants go on. It doesn't come off until they do. Every day. No exceptions. No fear in the process...just an automatic safety response, like looking over your shoulder before backing the car out.

What a stupid dangerous paranoid habit to get into. I bet you also have a pit bull in your junk yard.

Has anyone else noticed that the only arguments the gun hates can come up with are Emotional and Straw Man?
Shouldnt that tell us something right there?

lol at the people calling people taking precautions at being safe pussy's.

i would rather be thought of a pussy then dead. while i don't have a gun (keep meaning to get one. just other things tend to come up..fucking AC unit si not working thanks to a flood) i do have ways to protect myself and family.

does it make one a pussy? i don't see how. besides the chance of bashing spidey i don't see the argument.

I don't walk around the house carrying (although many people do). But there are loaded firearms on every floor where only me or the wife know where they are. Given how a lot of home invasions/murders come from people knocking on the door and then rushing once the door is open it's very prudent to answer the door armed.

I have loaded guns in my house, too. But I just look through the peephole before I open the door.

Anyone else notice that these anti-gun folks will preach tolerance just so long as it fits in with what they are told to think? Having tolerance for how other people live is what you get votes on, don't you think you should at least attempt to practice it outside of "oh, just give the poor Jihadists what they want!"?

I like the dudes that do this in inside access condos with front desk sign in.

Regardless if you feel the need to answer that door armed, chances are you should skip it.

Most home invasions would have you at the answer even if you got a shot off.

You'd be better served with a camera or proper peep hole at the door and answering with a bladed weapon if you still had fear.

Yes it is. Pussy.

Since when is it wrong to be afraid of something? He said he had been through a home invasion and now carries when he answers the door. That is simply how he deals with the situation because he realizes it could happen to him.

Is a woman who has been raped a pussy for fearing another rape?
Is a man who was beaten in a dark parking lot a pussy for not walking alone in dark parking lots?

Yeah the try to make gun ownership akin to other "hillbilly" activities and behavior, as if that somehow strengthens their argument. Instead, it makes them look like a fucking dumbass.

I have labs. they will bark up a storm if anyone come 200 yrs within house. It's amazing really how perceptive they are and annoying too. To me wakes me up. To would be's so they scram.

Little do they know all that would happen is licked to death LOL.

I am not going to get into another gun thread, but this story doesn't sound right. Why would armed intruders knock on a door, then shoot through? Armed intruders blasting through a door usually don't knock as the old guy is saying.

Um. You can take out one or more person right away.

This is basic odds.

If you kick in door you don't know where people/dogs are at.

Let me put it another way. How many adults live in your home? 1-2? And they usually answer door bell not children who pose no threat. Then home invader can shoot at least one adult taking him/her out of action.

Then you got dogs. If you ring DB and three rottweilers come it's probably not the right house know what I'm sayin?

At 12am and you see lights on? Nah.......I bet 5 dollars there is more to this story. When you bumrush a house like that you ain't concerned with number of adults and all that.

I'd never bumb rush better to send a chick up acted like she got assaulted or something and needs to call 911 and go from there. Best to control environment.

When were you home invaded? Seriously you didn't post about it?

May of '08. I don't talk about it because it truly changed how I feel about home security. My actions are still not out of fear, but "what if?". I'm a damn eagle scout and can save lifes and have saved at least 2 that I know of directly because of being prepared and skilled and paying fucking attention to my surroundings.

Then when it came to being prepared to save my own I saw how I was severely lacking. Better have it and not need it than need it and not have it, it really is just that simple. Scouts also taught me firearm safety from an early age so I was always around them from early on, especially since dad was a beat cop in Gary, IN. His service weapon was a .38 snub nose and that is wifes bedside gun now.

Well, I use to have a shotgun bird-shot first round then buck shot shells after always ready to go in the bedroom. Sounds like this all could of been avoided if they had a peep hole or he looked out the window first.

I guess I am semi paranoid. Then I started to worry if someone broke in my house they would most likely take the shot gun and it would be used by the bad guys. So Now, I lock it up in a gun safe. I have out door infer red (pet immune) motion detectors placed at the driveway, behind the house and aimed at my 40' deck and my car parked right in front of it. They will chime starting at 6PM till 8AM to let me know someone is outside. I have the place lit up with two 40 watt florescent bulbs to see who is wondering around outside or cumming up the deck to knock on the door. Anyone I don't recognize or looks suspicious (you know after 10PM don't know em and wearing all black)... I go get the shotgun.... Not like I live in the BEST of neighborhoods but. I think I got it pretty well covered. I only lock the safe when I'm not in my home.

I've never gone to the door with a gun, tho I have come out side once late at night with a can of mace... The guy claimed wrong house after honking in my driveway at 1AM, I think he was drunk. Sigh... Other then that never had a problem but you'd think being a marine the guy would have taken some precaution when answering a door. Sad story and all the better to be safe then sorry. Tho, if you gonna get a fire arm at least get a safe and lock it up when not home.

The thing is for most the shotgun by the door is a romantic idea. Bad guy knocks and they get the drop on them then blow away their other 4 friends.

In reality, if you are getting home invaded they are going to kick through when they hear you get to the door and be ready to fire. Chances are they have already scoped out your house and know who is home.

In reality as well, most probably aren't targets. Most home invasions are due to them knowing cash or weapons are there. Once you buy that gun, you now are more likely someone will try and take it.

If my door is knocked on at night and I feel a need to answer I go out the back and around to the front and approach them from behind. This I have only had to do once and it turned out to be an undercover officer looking for a guy that ran down the wooded area behind my home. We found a few dollar bills scattered and some cloth from a jacket or shirt torn off.

My house is actively monitored and I have a panic button that I can hit anywhere. Police respond here within 2-3 mins.

well if for some reason I wasn't waken up by my alarms, I keep my car panic alarm by my bed if I somehow got woke up by a LOUD kick on the door.

Good to have a cell phone with you in case you gotta get down in the basement or upstairs. Tho, I don't always keep my cell by my bed. I think having mr. shotgun in the bedroom is good enough...

2-3 minutes is too long. Only takes 20 seconds to kick in a door and 30 seconds to find your ass backed in a corner with phone in hand to 911 ... bang bang game over.

Doesn't ne1 believe in dogs anymore? 99% of the time they will pick an easier target. Especially you have some manstoppers like Rots/Shepherds. Plus they are alarms like none other.
