Not necessarily. You should try either very short download tests which will work before the speedboost kicks in, or very large speed tests where the first 20 megs or so will be at the speedboost rate and the rest at your regular max speed (if the test is large enough the first 20 megs will have a smaller impact on the speed number, of course)

What test site do you recommend?

Hm, I get 7800kb/s down and 1200kb/s up and it's more than I ever use... I could set up a server if I wanted and it would be plenty fast.

Yeah, but torrents are designed in a way where it's not necessarily YOU that controls how fast things go, but all of the people you are receiving data from that make the difference.

With an average download of a few hundred megs with a hundred or so seeders, you'll find that the bottleneck is connecting to people to get the files rather than actually downloading them.

I just moved into a new place and got Comcast cable. In my last place with same carrier it was horrible. In my new place the cable guy said the connection was very clean and it's evident in my cable TV picture.

When I did about 5 speed tests, I noticed on short tests my powerboost was kicking in and giving me readings around 10-12mbps/2-3mbps. When I did longer tests it showed what it more or less should be, 6mb/1-1.5 up. Actually my up shouldn't be that strong either as I am paying for 6/756k. Either way I am happy with it until FIOS comes around.

Funny thing about FIOS is my area (Jersey city, NJ) got FIOS wired in a remote part of town yet hasn't gotten to the downtown area that is full of luxury high rises with tech saavy professionals.

it only boosts for the 1st 12 mb of a file. i'm not sure if that includes torrents or not.

your net speed is also impacted on your location in the system. the closer you are to the hub or substation, the faster your speeds. I use this site to test my home and office speeds, and it works pretty good.

I've seen those 7 MB/sec downloads. My laptop HD was basically working hard and I couldn't do much more while it downloaded... DAMN.

1/10th of that? Wow. I can find wireless networks that will give me ~1.5 MB/sec but the best way to go is still wired wheny ou want something quick from the university network.

I just got 25mbps down on speedtest.net. Powerboost FTW. This means nothing when I max out around 780 KB/sec sustained speeds.

I don't think you've been following what comcast is doing. They're rolling out docsis 3.0 and will have 20% of their subscribers upgraded before the end of this year. So they have 25 Mbs and even higher available.
