It might help to solder posts into the board, then wirewrap the transistor to the post. Unless you already fried the transistor. If you're trying to resolder the transistor to the board, I highly recommend either using a heat sink (no, you PC-only geeks, not the one that you put on CPU fans) or a 15-watt (definitely sub-30 watt) soldering iron.
