HOLY FRIGGIN CraP. I desoldered a transistor on my PS2!!

<< i dont think the transistor is fried. it's still in good shape physically. i was using a 15W soldering iron with a very pointy edge. i suppose it's possible to put it back myself but my eyesight isnt the greatest either. i tried booting it but the disc won't eject nor it will load. i believe the transistor has to do with the wires connecting to the laser.

i'm gonna try to put it back later today but iwas wondering if it really matters what direction i put the transistor back in? it's not labeled like the bigger ones so i'm not sure which end goes on which side.

as for returning it to the store, i'm pretty sure they'll check serial #'s.

Haha, are you even sure it is a transistor? You talk about 'which end', but a transistor should have 3 pins 😀 😀 😀

Transistors do have 3 pins. Emitter, base, and collector. And yes, it does matter which end goes where. If you look at the flat side, the emitter is on the left, the base is in the middle, and the collector is on the right. I highly recommend getting a clue before you plug it back in, though. Don't really want to blow the thing if you haven't already. Seems like you'd be ok with a 15 watt iron, though.
