Is flexibility that impressive when it comes to karate? Because that seems to be all the crowd cared about...

Kicking literally straight up in the air is pretty near impossible for most people.

Yeah when she kicked straight up it was cool, but sometimes she would just lift her leg straight up and everyone would cheer.

Most gymnasts can do vertical splits like that though, can't they?

Whats shes doing is 90% gymnastics and maybe 10% karate anyhow.

from what i can remember its a form of Martial arts. its all show and no real use.

its used in tournemanets (not fighting but again show) and such. lots of stuff like what she did. It is kinda fun to watch the little guys who do a lot of jumps and spinning kicks

Jesus, LOL at some of the responses. That was nothing but a demonstration/exhibition. Sort of like a forms competition in a tourney. Except this seems more freestyle. That's def no 'form' that I'm aware of.

There's a girl in my son's Tae Kwon Do class, she's about 10 or 11. She took gymnastics for 5 years before doing this. It's painfully obvious how much it's helped her in Tae Kwon Do. She has long legs to begin with, but her reach, speed and strength for her age and size are amazing as a result. She's on the tournament team with my son and I've seen her hand out her fair share of beatdowns. I can only imagine where she'll be in 10 years.
