Holy crap, the new Lexus LS 460 can park itself!

The target must be 6.5 feet longer than the car.

Haha, if you cant hit that in a parallel park situation, you suck at driving.

Negative. Honestly I'd be a little surprised to see this feature on a BMW - it seems inconsistent with their emphasis on the driving experience. I would have thought Mercedes would innovate this, just as they have innovated a ton of other driver aids and safety features.

Then how do you explain i-Drive? 😀

Took the words right out of my mouth.

i-Drive is a stupid idea IMO (though God knows it's been influential, since Merc and Audi both use similar systems), but it isn't the same thing as literally letting the car take control of the brakes, steering wheel, and throttle.

What's the fun in that?

Jeebus, why not just make cars that drive themselves? Safer I bet. Then people could really talk on the phone and ignore the driving part.

6.5 feet is a hell of a lot of space. Even I can hit that... lol

that's pretty much what a S class does.

I just realized how lame this new Lexus technology is. Now if it can rotate all the wheels 45 degrees and actually move the car into the parallel parking spot sideways, then I'd be impressed.

Does that mean in 10 years time parking will no longer be a requirement in license tests?!

When I got my license I didn't have to park my car.

That fake ID you found inside of a cracker jack box doesn't count as a license.

this is much more useful. I guess you mean rotate sideway 95 degrees.

I didn't have to park either for mine.

Is that 6.5ft rating counting front and back? It wouldn't be so bad if it is, if not that's not very reasonable.

Wait til something goes wrong, and it backs over some rich lady's Pomeranian, and breaks it's dick off, while it's peeing on the fire hydrant.

Dude, 6.5 feet total is a CRAPLOAD of space. Not reasonable at all.

Here in Seattle, I have had to park in spaces that have less than a foot of combined front+back space. I've parked in even tighter spots, too--I think my record was about 8 inches--but it takes for-freaking-ever.

But I'm not rich enough to drive a Lexus anyway, so it's a moot point:laugh:

its a park assist. u have to put car in reverse and it backs into spot. but you have to hit the brakes to make it stop or it would run into the car behind you. and if you want to pull forward, you'd have to put it in gear, hit the gas, hit the brake. saw it in action at the lexus event today. albeit cool, its useless since it requires so much more space than the car actually needs.

oh and I enjoyed driving the 750 more than the LS 460. The lexus feels waaaay to disengaged from the road.

Well if you think about it, the ideal parallel parking spot would be 1.5X the length of the car... So in the IDEAL parallel parking space, 6.5 feet is justifiable.

Jesus with 6.5 ft + the size of your car, you could frickin pull straight in!

I'd rather have one of the cars that you pull next to a spot, hit a button and your wheels turn perpendicular to the curb and pull in that way.
