Sound equipment is such a waste of time and money
I agree to an extent, but it's what somebody just happens to enjoy, much the same way you happen to enjoy remaking an arcade machine
Yeah but it's not a waste of time or money since I get something new from it. I wouldn't be able to play these games otherwise. With audio stuff, I can listen to the exact same stuff on my $50 speakers and they sound great to me.
I think they enjoy building the stuff more than they actually use it when it's done
You could play those games on your computer using an emulator. Instead, you build a dedicated cabinet. Someone who puts that many alternators in a vehicle is into the competition scene, and they thorougly(sp) enjoy doing it.
And as for your $50 speakers, there is a WORLD of difference between the stock sound system in a vehicle versus a quality tuned SQ (sound quality) competition vehicle. They aren't even comparable.
My best friend is in to audio. He works at Tweater after just finishing a year of work a private install place that's popular in San Diego. He has a very expensive setup in his car. It's very well done.
I've listened to the high quality music and compared to mine, you can't really tell a difference, seriously. His can do louder and at those levels I'm sure it's less distorted, but seriously...who listens to their music that loud?
And for the MAME; that's our primary tv (hooked up to cable). The computer is needed as mentioned. So the only thing we added was the wood and controllers. Well, the wood was dirt cheap (along with the paint) and the conotrol panel was just over $100. The difference between playing on a keyboard in your room vs a common room arcade that has arcade controllers is very much different.
That probably wasn't the best comparrison for you to use but I see your point. Nonetheless, you don't actually obtain anything more from it so I fail to see the benifit/cost ratio being high
