A lot of flying saucers in the 40's were VTOL (vertical take-off, Harrier-like) aircraft prototypes. Since aircraft development is often kept secret (how much did we know about the stealth fighters/bombers until they were used in a war?), a lot of people are seeing flying things they can't recognise.
Not counting people suffering sleep paralyisis and the occasional liars whose cows were raped by grey people, there aren't a lot of incidents where something extraterrestial may have been involved.

Here it is well documented in many UFO sighting sites. This report was filed long before there was an "Internet" as you can see.

Ive seen a red globe do that before with a friend. It looked like a ball of fire in the sky. I though it was just a plane or something or maybe a meteor....but then it starting shooting quickly and circling around and then dissapeared. We were both scared as #@*@. I was driving be felt compelled to stop and look at it along with my friend that night though.

That is believed to be caused by the chupacabra, and sounds strangely similar to all the alien claims. What does this mean? Well, I haven't got a clue, so quit pestering me.

I don't doubt that many people experience something that they find difficult to understand. It may be something that is just illusionary or maybe has some physical basis. The problem is that the explanation they concoct for what they experience is NOT AT ALL GUARANTEED TO BE CORRECT. It's only their best attempt to rationally fit it into their understanding of reality. Truth is definitely NOT in the eye of the beholder.

If I ever see what appears to be an unidentified flying object, I will most certainly doubt my own efforts to characterize its nature!

Funny how we can get a home video tape of just about anything happening on the planet, but we can't seem to get anything conclusive about aliens. Odd, I tell you. Those damn aliens are just too smart.
