Damn. The Lonely Mountain song gave me chills. Reminded me of the the 70s cartoon version of The Hobbit, which is what I saw first before I read the books.
I haven't read much about The Hobbit because I hate hyping myself up on things. There were a couple of scenes with Gandalf by himself in ruins. Wonder if that means they're going to delve into the periods of time where Gandalf would vanish, presumably to investigate the Necromancer in Mirkwood. Kind of like PJ did with LOTR when Gandalf leaves Frodo and Sam at the very beginning to dig for ring lore and then gets captured by Sauraman.
LOTR was more mature with it's doomsday and coming-of-age themes. The Hobbit was written to be a children's tale about a little guy that gets dragged thousands of miles from his home to help them recapture their home from a dragon, all because 13 (the number of dwarves) is an unlucky number. What's with all the slapstick? That's how they ruined Star Wars.
