Damn. The Lonely Mountain song gave me chills. Reminded me of the the 70s cartoon version of The Hobbit, which is what I saw first before I read the books.

What's with all the slapstick? That's how they ruined Star Wars.
LOTR was more mature with it's doomsday and coming-of-age themes. The Hobbit was written to be a children's tale about a little guy that gets dragged thousands of miles from his home to help them recapture their home from a dragon, all because 13 (the number of dwarves) is an unlucky number.

I haven't read much about The Hobbit because I hate hyping myself up on things. There were a couple of scenes with Gandalf by himself in ruins. Wonder if that means they're going to delve into the periods of time where Gandalf would vanish, presumably to investigate the Necromancer in Mirkwood. Kind of like PJ did with LOTR when Gandalf leaves Frodo and Sam at the very beginning to dig for ring lore and then gets captured by Sauraman.

Hell yeah, fuck you apple!

Hate apple all you like, I'm not a fan. And I hate quick time. But the 1080p trailers on Apple.com/trailers are easily some of the sharpest best looking trailers out there. They look MUCH better to me than the 1080p trailers on Youtube.

pretty shitty books, really.

Blasphemer!

The trailer is everything I hoped it would be. This movie has been a rough ride. First off it's taking 9 years after ROTK to come out, then it was assumed for years PJ would not be directing (that hit me hard), but now he is and it's merely 1 year away. Everything fell into place. I feel like it's 2001 again. :D

I have to say I think I'm most excited about this over any other movie coming out in the future.

Probably 3rd Batman is a close 2nd.

why does Thorin look like he's 30 years old? he's like 150 in the book, the oldest of the whole group of dwarves. ok maybe they don't age like humans, fine, but why are there other dwarves that look older?

I was a little disappointed. There wasn't much action it the trailer.

yea. i have never read the books nor do i plan to, and don't know the story of the hobbit, and it just looks kinda boring from the trailer. and the whole introduction of the 4893284903432 dwarves was a tad corny.

i'm sure i will still see it though because i was a fan of LOTR.

Is it just me, or does it appear to have been colored over with crayons?

Everything looks way too saturated. I'm sure they aren't finished in post and everything...but I worry that this will be either too cartoony, or this somehow hints that it was filmed for 3D.

blech.

I'm about 90% sure it was filmed for 3D.

didnt Dobi die?

Thorin dies in the Battle of Five Armies. Fili and Kili, brothers, are Thorin's sister, Dis' children. Hence they are his nephews. They die beside Thorin in the Battle of Five Armies.
:hmm:

J R R Tolkien, had intended the book to be more mature but on the advice of his friend, C S Lewis (Narnia book) he reworked it to be more a childs book. At the time, it just wasnt usual for adults to admit to reading fantasy.
Hopefully, Jackson can follow the book but lend a bit of maturity to the story in "fleshing it out".

The worse was the cartoon version of the Hobbit back in the late 70's early 80's.

That cartoon made me want to puke. It was horrid.

Isn't this one of the first films being shot with RED Epic cameras? (5k res. 96FPS etc etc)
