Like my jackass neighbor who had his front yard filled with Christmas decorations until the middle of March. They were blowing around in the wind, overturned, etc. too. There is no excuse for that shit. It's funny he had enough energy to put them up in time for Xmas but wouldn't get off his ass until St. Patrick's Day to put them away.

His property, so get over it.

Next up. Anyone with children BANNED!
Well there are places like that already.

Yep. Like retirement communities. The kids can visit, but they can't stay and they can't play outside or make noise.

I doubt this is legal.

I believe it is, it's a contractual agreement for living there. That's not to say that if the people wanted to they couldn't fight to get it changed, but my guess is since it even went into affect, there's a lot of old people without kids living there.
I think he means because bicycles are street-legal vehicles with all the same privileges as cars, but that doesn't stop retirement communities from banning motorcycles. I didn't have a car in San Diego and I always had to park at the entrance and walk half a mile to visit my uncle's widow in Carlsbad.

Like said already before, HOAs in theory are a good idea but in practice suck because the only people that are on the boards that run them are busy bodies that are in every body's business and banning everything they don't like.

Any bets on how long it takes for a message written in salt to appear in the president's lawn?

You should be a fan of them since they're big government. ;)
Why do you hate excesses in HOA's, but not excesses in our government?

Typical delusion of right-wing nutties, who call good government 'big government' and have no idea of what progressives actually are for.:)

For example, you would say it's big government that I'm for breathelyzers in all cars; I'd say I'm for freedom for driving without so much danger from drunk drivers.

I don't object that much in theory to HOA's, in that 'they're democracy', but the horror stories of little tyrants in practce make them very unappealing. I like plenty of freedom.

Did they ban Segways? If not start a Segway gang? Or better yet what about wheel chairs? Start a wheelchair gang!

That'd work. Get all the kids in wheelchairs meekly trying to play a game in the parking lot and invite the media.

Joking aside, it's not like they can ban wheelchairs anyway as I'm sure that'd bash up against some ADA regulation somewhere. Or maybe they could get away with it having an exemption for individuals holding disabled placards or something like that.

No bicycles? wtf?

I've said this in a million of these threads, but options. In same places you simply don't have any options not to. Or the options are VERY limited. I hate HOA's. We are looking for a new house, it is almost undoubtedly going to be in an HoA.

Cheaper to just pay the bills directly and hire someone.

I was going to say. It takes me two hours to mow my lawn. If I paid myself $15/hr and mowed the lawn every week (which I don't), combined with all those other bills it would still cost less than that. And I live in an expensive area.

It's not per hour for mowing around here. It's $25/week and they come 3-4 times a week. So that's half the $200 already, then the rest goes to the other utilities mentioned. I think $200/mo. is actually pretty accurate. However, mowing is only a few months of the year, not all 12 months. Personally I cut my own lawn because $100/mo. is not worth it to me - depends on the size of your yard.

You get your grass cut every 2 days?

sorry month. If it were that frequent I'd go nuts, as I work from home and hear the damn landscapers everyday... if it's not one house it's another.

And if I lived there that's how I would end the tickets within 24 hours. Get a list of the board members, invite all of my friends over to speed and use a random board member for each ticket. Those rent-a-cops would be on their way back to the mall before the ink on the first ticket dried.

You don't get past the gate without permission in my neighborhood. If you were visiting me, you wouldn't be able to say you were visiting someone else unless they put you on their guest list.

A HOA would be nice right now. I have an asshole that rides a dirt bike all over the neighborhood for hours everyday. I've called the cops multiple times as have several other neighbors but they haven't shown up once that I know of. Dirtbike dude is out riding again now.

Solution is for all the HOA members who don't like this policy to ban together and replace the HOA board.

Would it be any different if it was a kid on a pedal bike? Do you expect him to make a trip to the dunes every weekend just to use his own bike? You forgot to mention just what about it annoys you. There are several kids running dirt bikes and go karts and ATVs through my neighborhood, but as long as they aren't tearing up my yard or doing it late at night, I don't and shouldn't care. Even when I worked third shift, I considered it the same as my neighbor mowing the lawn and did not aspire to be the kill-joy HOA nitpicking jerk you want to be.

Congrats: You're the jerk everyone is talking about who makes them hate HOAs.

When I live in the middle of a city yes I expect them to take it somewhere else. A peddle bike doesn't keep me awake or make it hard to watch TV. Oh and this guy is tearing up my yard. He finally quit doing that though after my next door neighbor and I confronted him. This isn't just for 30mins once or twice a week. This has been going on for 6 hours SIX HOURS!!!! today alone and it is every damn day. This isn't some little kid on a 50cc bike either. This is an adult riding a full on adult sized bike.
