That is what city zoning laws are for.
The rest of us outside the HOA police state understand that.

You don't understand why HOA's came to be, do you?

I understand exactly why they came to be as I live in an area that unfortunately was a pioneer in these things due to the highly transient nature of military postings and government jobs. What has happened though is a defacto forcing of everyone that wants to buy a home to agree to these since almost any development built since the late 1970's is covered by one. The only way you can opt out is to find one of those rare homes built prior to the rise of the HOA. If zoning laws required that a certain percentage of new construction be HOA free I would be much more comfortable with them in conjunction with tighter state regulation that specified what areas an HOA was absolutely forbidden to meddle in such as what bumper stickers a resident sticks on their automobile.

It was a marketing idea by realtors and NHA to increase income. They promised a utopia that could only exist in their respective HOA communities. They could cram more homes into a acre of land almost insuring that people would have problems with their neighbors.

If you are having problems with a neighbor I suggest people do the neighborly thing and talk to them. Who am I to tell the person next door not to paint his house a certain color ? It is his home, on his land.

I always make fun of the guys with a ton of USMC stickers on thier vicks. Motivators, Poster Boys, several other nicknames I cant remember. Let it slide a little bit with the older retired guys though, they get kinda nastalgic and carried away. I have a tiny "USMC", barely noticeable on my driver side back bumper, just enough so the State Trooper who got me doing 90 down I275 sees it on his way up to my window.. and I get treated a lot different.

But if an HOA came in told me (or a 'Nam vet) that his stickers were tacky, I'd tell them to shove it up thier ass. Then id add a dozen of the briget red and yellow ones just to piss them all off.

Hehe, I had a thought of wow, that must be where a bunch of the P&N posters live

I just find it funny that a lot of people here live in HOA's and complain about it. Why would you move into one and support it if it's so bad? You don't have to live in a HOA. You choose to live in a HOA. You moved into the house knowing there was a HOA there.

Sometimes that isn't the case. There are many neighborhoods that originally did not have a HOA, but then some busy bodies got together and decided to form one. In the case of my old neighborhood all the needed was a simple majority of the homeowners to agree to start one...then blam.

Which is why I bought some land, 33 acres originally but now I'm up to nearly 80, built a house on it and can paint myself blue and run around outside riding a stick horse naked if I want.

It would be great if the HOA presidents car disappeared in a cloud of smoke following an unexplained artillery accident.

You have a choice don't you? You either choose to move into one or don't.

I agree, that's not tacky at all.

From TFA:

One board member said he was unaware the HOA presidents sent the letter and did not know of any issue with Larimore's vehicle.

"I will be looking into it," said board member Art Bradford. "I didn't know anything about this. I haven't seen this."

The board president was out of town and unavailable. The condo management company did not want to comment.

This sounds like the board president is likely on a power trip and is out of step with everyone else.

Personally, I don't give two shits about what's on somebody's car. The office thing was a different situation though, that's a company, it's not the cube-workers property.

PS. People like spidey07 are fucking cock-bags.

You've been warned before about personal attacks. There was absolutely no reason for that attack. See you in a week. -Anandtech Moderator DrPizza

I remember someone in my neighborhood had a Bush sign on his front window facing the street and they made him take it down or he will be charged with violation. I think its pure crap.

I don't like HOAs and I would never live in one. I believe that their rules are often ridiculous and their methods are sometimes fascist. However, he chose to live there. He needs to follow their rules or move out. Imagine if some crazy was driving around with a sticker of aborted fetuses on his back window because he was an anti-abortion activist organization employee or having KKK stickers on the back because he is a member.

That's the whole thing about liberty and freedom. You have to take the good with the bad aspects of it.

Which is why I wouldn't sign a contract and move into an HOA. He lives in an HOA community and must follow its rules or move to a non-HOA community.

The letter from the board states you can't have any form of advertisement anywhere on your car on your property.

Hmmmm.....then I suggest they send letters to each and every person there that has a dealer applique or license plate frame on their car, since the sole reason dealers put those on the cars they sell is to get cheap advertising!

You really don't understand.

These same people don't want guns or fast cars either much of the time.

so they automatically assume you are military because you have a sticker?

If you bought into an HOA (who's rules you set) and told them your violation is ok, then you really need to think about that 'marine?'?
