The legal situation in FL is getting most ridiculous. The vote is so close, you could recount everyone's ballot 100 times and get a different outcome each time. given the numbers involved, there's a significant margin for error. And, it seems, Gore is destined to pull the slot lever until he sees three dollar signs.

We've had close elections before. In every case, the loser -- even will evidence of voting irregularities -- submitted and conceded the election to the winner. That's a first-class act and Gore can still keep his place in history if he would simply give the FL officials a call and say, "one recount, one winner". Do it, Al, for all our sakes.

Ah hell, call it a tie and let the House decide.

salon.com article
New Mexico's secretary of state announced the margin between Gore and Bush had diminished to just 106 votes. Many networks have now taken New Mexico and its 5 electoral votes away from Gore, leaving him with 255 and Bush with Bush 246. The New Mexico result could become significant if Repubicans follow through on their threats of the last couple of days to demand a recount in Wisconsin, which is currently in the Gore column along with its 11 electoral votes. In a wild hypothetical scenario, if Gore ends up winning Florida, while losing Oregon, New Mexico and Wisconsin, both Gore and Bush would have 269 votes, and the next president would be picked by the House of Representatives. Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports unofficial results showing Gore leading Bush by 5,973 votes in the still-undecided state of Oregon, with 99 percent of the votes counted. There, too, a recount might be necessary.
Also Friday, Republicans in Wisconsin alleged they found irregularities with the vote there, seemingly prepping for another electoral mess

Apoppin,
You will never hear Russ admit he's wrong. If Bush wins, he'll rub our noses in it. If Gore wins, he'll blame the Democrats for cheating Bush, thereby not being wrong by his own undoing. Either way, Russ will try to smell like roses, so he can say anything he wants.

Gore should not concede until it is clear all the votes have been accurately counted, especially where manual counts have been requested. It has been a right for close elections to have manual counts requested.
No one argues this one is close.

So, lets wait to get an accurate count off all the ballots, including where manual counts have been requested.
