bleh. im always carrying a bag with me anyways, so its not like the extra few ounces and/or size will make much difference to me. but i understand what you're saying about people who like to carry it around in a pocket or something, i guess i can see it becoming a problem. either way i use netmd and i won't ever have to worry about HD based players.

ehhh no im not. 2 of my friends got ipods for xmass last year (10gig ) and because i have a huge MP3 collection they figured they would get a bunch of songs from me. first one worked the first time the second time it crashed the ipod and it had t be sent back to be fixed. all that came up was that unhappy face and an exclamation point.

we get it back and the same thing happened again but this time it froze my comp and took a 40 gig HD with it. other friends didn?t work from the get go and really hated my comp. tried transferring to it using both ephpod and MMJB both crashed 1 killed ipod 1 messed up partition

The sizes aren't THAT significant... look above at my post.

like i said, it's a subjective thing. I used to be big in the MD scene.. and every mm counted.

as for cost, yes, it's expensive, but just find a deal for it, and you're good.

Many audiophiles consider the ipods sound quality to be quite good. I'm certainly pleased with it as a portable device. I find the user interface to be fantastic and allows me to easily find anything I want on it in a hurry. I like the touch sensitive buttons and overall between the design, interface, etc I found it to be worth the premium. Try them all out and see what you like. You might like the zen more or feel the ipod isn't worth a little more. I did.

this time it froze my comp and took a 40 gig HD with it

how does a frozen computer "take out" a HD? power surge down the ide channels?

I chose the 30 GB Zen for $265 because even a $170 refurb 10 GB iPod can't compare to the price of that Zen. I already have 15 GB of MP3's right now, so the iPod would be useless... I could move up to the 20 GB for about the same price as the Zen if I could find one refurbished, but I still wouldn't have the storage space I'd have with the Zen.

Another perk is that by not buying an iPod I'm contributing to Apple's demise

Both music players hold plenty of songs, the iPod gets knocked around in the reviews because it was the first and is the best.

its not the best its sound quality is crap compaired to the zen. if you cant tell that you have bad ears. its fragil as hell. while teh zen can take a beating. the ipods menu structure is confusing as hell. and it eats PCs for lunch (read my other post). the Zen maby be a lil bigger but if you hold teh 2 side by side its not that big of a deal + its 100$ cheaper for the same amount of space, has an FM tuner also

Ummm.. The ipod is not fragile.. I've had a 2nd gen player for years and the thing takes a beating (I've been through 4 sets of headphones yet the iPod, often in the same bag when my headphones shatter, still works great)..

I'm sure that the zen sounds great - creative has a lot of experience in the S.Q. field.. But it's interface, size, and weight just don't equal the ipod... People want portability - cellphones are getting smaller, cameras are getting smaller, everything is getting smaller.. I can't believe that companies are still making "ipod killers" thar are 20%+ bigger than the original 1st gen model! Why even bother?

dont ask me what happened something messed up internally and HD went bad. couldent find master file system. granted something else coudl have caused it but it happened at teh same time teh ipod died. froze comp i restarted HD = dead

apple products are usually a little overpriced only because copycats come around.


The thing with apple is it's really high quality (most of the time), more metals, thicker plastic, smoother edges.


However even during the time of the Lisa you could haggle 20-30% off the price.

i never said the ipod was crap I just said the Zen was better . There is a big difference there. And the last apple thread I remember posting in was the 20in Imac one. and i still thinks its pointless. read my reply?s in the Gen hardware thread i hate it less over there. and I don?t copy OSX. i use YZdock not because im copying anything but because it works well and does what i want. i used the Office shortcut bar before but it looks like crap so i switched
