Hmm... 3000GT --> 330i

Sweet car no doubt...but $679/month seems like quite a car payment. But then again, if you can afford it...more power to you.

Yeah I got it back in Dec. 2000 and financed it for 60 months.

As for the new vs used comments the first car I looked at was a 2002 330i white w/leather w/20K miles but it was $35K. I figured I'd spend the extra $5K or so and get the car I really wanted in the color I wanted brand new.
Now that I've slept on it I think what I may do is go see the car in person today and fill out the forms they emailed me last night and see if I can even qualify for the lease. If I do then I'll decide what to do from there... either get it within a week or so or hold off a couple months, pay off a credit card, and then go back and get a 04 330i. 😉

I'm not looking at it as $650/month like most people... I'm looking at it as an additional $350/month including insurance. So it's not that huge of a change... just another bill. We'll see.

And I know what you're all thinking... if I get it yes I'll try to get some pics after I put some P21S or Zaino on it. 🙂

Leasing has many advantages... and makes sense for me instead of buying right now.
Plus I can use it as a tax write off since it'll be my company car. I just have to find out how big of write off it is. 😉

New cars are always nicer than eight year old cars. But man $650 a month! That is a lot of beer and pizza money.

Hey if you can afford it and you want it. Get it

Have you looked for a year old 330i?

for $40k you can get a used Acura NSX which will be more fun to drive, get more looks from people when you're driving it, and have a higher resale value when you get tired of it.

679/month , damn man. I lived in a 2 floor - 3 bed room house that cost less a month. Is 679 including insurance? I can only imagine with full coverage you will be paying 800-1000 a month for that car.

I don't know the rates in NC are but insurance rates in NJ and NY are just horrid. I pay 300 dollars a month just for a damn 98' honda here.

Ok, why pay theat much for a car you're gonna turn in. If the 3000GT gets you from point a to point b fine, and doesn't have problems, keep it, and save that $680 a month and save for a downpayment on a house.

850i with the v12 is the only way to go!

Or, just buy my v6 Fiero. Bwahahahaha

Yup, it's the only way to go if the only place you're going is to the mechanic.

Well I decided I'm going to hold off for a few months and see what happens. One day I'll have a nice new car. 🙂
Thanks for your opinions.

I can afford it... it'll be tight but...
Based on that plus your "pro" of "It's a BMW" make me say stick with what you have for now. IMO (and I'm sure I'll get flamed for saying this) anyone planning on picking up a car in that pirce range should be able to drop cash.

It doesn't make much sense to stop paying towards ownership of a vehicle in order to get into payments on something that you have to give back in three years...or pay a monster residual payment just to keep it.

Instead of going broke just for a car and thinking of it as "just another $350/month" think of how much other stuff you could do with that money. Unless you plan on living in your car, why not get some nicer stuff (maybe some home theater stuff 😉) for your home or even a better home. Or, you could use it as startup capital for a business. If you're still pretty young, you might want to look into what types of choices you have for investing. Time is everything when it comes to investing.

And, if you're planning on using the new car partially as a company vehicle, I'm fairly sure you'll be disappointed in whatever write-off you get.

We could all go on but it sounds like you already made your decision anyway. 😉

I'm disappointed. You were supposed to go against the vote. 😉

It's surprising how close your thoughts are to mine...
I'm already self employed... I've been looking at a surround sound system to go with my HDTV... and I think I'm going to throw a lazboy recliner infront of that TV.
Plus I thought that if I got hired as an employee instead of being a contractor... there goes my write off. It'd probably be pretty small anyway.

The only thing I'm concerened about is my car. The transmission has been doing some strange things lately... I've replaced the end clutch friction discs and I'm probably going to do the seals and fluid/filter this afternoon since I'm keeping it. If that thing goes I'll be SOL. One of the reasons I was going to get rid of it... with the BMW I wouldn't have to worry about maintenance.

I drove a coworkers 325i at work today and was pleasanty surprised. Even though the car only has 184HP it seemed to be better all around compared to my 3000GT.

"only 184 HP" are you out of your mind how can that be "only" Dunno if you all go racing but that is alot of horsepower - more than you can ever use in the States. BTW the 325 has 192 HP. And if 145 mph is'nt enough - I dont know. All the Americans I see on the road (there is tons of them here ) drive dog slow (and in town, a few drive outright scary, with drunk like driving skills -suddenly jerking the car around a corner) - they could do with 30HP - but prolly they are just extra careful 😀

And if u talk acceleration, well when can u use it - almost never

That lease payment seems quite high to me..... There are other cars out there that can be leased for around that much. THe new 7 could be leased for $799 about 6 months ago... that was of course to spur sales but regardless.

Why not take a G35 Coupe if you want something faster? Take up a 4 or 5 year loan sell the car in 3 if you want.

~200bhp really isn't that much power. We can use a LOT more in the states. Look at corvettes or firebirds, or hell any other car.
In america we don't have many highways that have no speed limit. So acceleration can be used a lot.

For that much dimp...I'd wait for the new Audi S4 to roll out. Roughly the same price range. Probably better residual too.

I doubt anyone can get a 330ci for 32k especially when there aren't any options factored into it.
I have never seen a base 330ci. It had some sort of options to drive up it's value.

$650/month for a car = not worth it. I guess it's ok if you wipe your azz with andrew jacksons, but otherwise......at the very least, go for used if not just a cheaper car all together. A4 2.8 Quattro?
