i finished building my high-end PC (dfi nf4 lanparty ut, A64 3500+, X850XT, everything overclocked to the max) about a month ago...so i had to hold off with playing all the titles like Doom3, Half-Life2, FarCry.

I know its very "last year" - but i am totally blown away by Half-Life 2.

I dont know what else to say than "whow..whow....whow"......some/most levels are just absolutely stunning breathtaking awesome :)

Eg. right now i am in the "follow freeman" level and fully engaged in the urban resistance warfare.....fighting the striders with the RPGs with my squad :)

This game is not GOOD...this game is a MUST HAVE and if everyone has a doubt about whether its worth upgrading hardware etc....he might want to take a look at Hl2 playing with 6xAA on a high end card and fast CPU....and then just being blown away by the action and story and everything....

Also....as a side note.....Doom3 looks like the most boring piece of ****, while Hl2 offers new stuff and motivation with every level i havent seen anything new the further i went in D3 and D3 got already very boring..what's the right expression? Totally mindless and dull...

I want to give Kudos to the people at valve for making Hl2 and i hope that many people buy this game because its worth every penny :)

Btw. i havent done DM yet because i usually finish single player 'til i jump into DM.

HL2DM is da bizzle. Glad you're enjoying the game, it's truely incredible. As far as Doom 3, it's all subjective of course, but it's not as bad as you might think. I had some qibbles but it was fun for sure.

I was more impressed by HL2 than farcry. Dunno, all the multiplayer stuff in HL2 pushes it over the top. Multiplayer in farcry is boring and laggy. Nobody plays anyways.
However, farcry had a great single player campaign. Really challenging and pretty freakin long.

And I'd place Far Cry between the two. Awesome graphics. Love the jungle that finally looks good in a game!

Another "late comer" to the game here. Couldn't find the "official thread" so I'll add on here.

Wow, what a hoot. I found this to be one of most fun games I have played in a while. Yeah, the gfx were good, but I was having too much fun to notice much. I'll give those a closer look when I start replaying it tonight (finished last night). Their 5.1 or suround sound was pretty good, I noticed that if I turned my head while someone was speaking to me the volume would shift from left-to-right, or however I turned.

Really enjoyed the hover-bike, dune buggy, squad aspects etc made for interesting an varied gameplay. I played through it with my 9 yr old son. He loved the "dog", the Ant Lions and squads. I had fun watching him fool around with the "gravity gun". It's interesting to see how kids will use it. The HL franchise has a new fan for life. He's already asking about an expansion pack and HL3. He was a little disapointed when we finished last night. So, yeah, maybe its a bit short but a short game which is a lot of fun beats a long boring one any day for me.

The first night I started playing it was 4am before I stepped away from the keyboard. The time just flew by, I had no idea it was so late. Great fun!

Bordering on a redundant/past debate here but I enjoyed Far Cry more than HL2. But I think it depends on what context you're grading in. HL2 was more visually stunning to play but in terms of a "fun factor" I definitely got more enjoyment out of Far Cry. I was literally depressed when that game ended for me but with HL2, I was just kind of suprised it ended so quickly. Also, I had very high expectations for HL2 after the long wait. Far Cry kind of came out of nowhere and really caught me off guard with how good it was which also contributes to the appeal it had with me.

I cannot WAIT for a Far Cry expansion/sequel.

Man, I wish I was just now cracking open Far Cry and HL2 like the OP. I only enjoy FSP games and there is nothing on the shelves right now that warrant buying except maybe Chaos Theory. :(

Ouch! When the prices fall I'd get HL2 before D3. I wouldn't want to pay more than $30. IMHO, HL2 is too short for $50, D3 is longer, but not as much fun, not $50 worth anyway.

If you haven't already, get Far Cry or Painkiller while you wait for those high prices to fall

I can't see how Doom3 is longer. I beat Doom3 in 2 days, never did beat HL2.

Well, seemed longer to me. I found the "middle" of D3 boring, maybe that made it seem "longer". Sure took me a lot longer to finish it.

I picked up Farcry for $10 At STaples in Canada a few weeks ago, the Multiplayer sucks big time.

Ironic because I didn't think D3 would ever end for me and I was through with HL2 in the course of a weekend. :D

Probably seemed longer because you were tip toeing places cuz you were scared and HL2 seems more interesting lol

I had more fun playing, and was more impressed by the graphics in, Far Cry. Was also cool to be so pleasantly surprised by the title, vs. waiting, being lied to, waiting some more, fielding more BS, waiting, etc. for HL2. I don't care for playing against people (actually don't care for multiplayer in FPSs in general, as a lot of young'uns tend to play), so that part of the HL2 appeal doesn't pertain to me.

Way to generalize over 2 million people in one sweep. And that's just Half-life players.

"a lot" != "all", stay in school and you'll learn these little nuances of English.

It's funny that you say that. I did the exact same thing...I held off on playing HL2 and Farcry until now because I had an outdated machine, but I just got an XPS 2 notebook (Geforce Go 6800 Ultra). I started with Farcry which still blows me away, I just picked up HL2 this weeked for a change of pace. In a way, the graphics do seem a bit dated compared to Farcry, but the visual design, level design and gameplay is top notch, not to mention the original Half-Life is probably my favorite FPS.

I'm definitely glad I waited to play these on my new machine in beautiful 1920x1200. :D
