HL: Source how is it?

Czar

Lifer
I'm actually more interested in hl: source than I am for hl2, since I know hl1 had awsome gameplay, so how is it compared to the original hl?

Is it worth me playing through HL: Source before playing HL2 if i've never played more than 10 mins of the original HL??

YES.

Hell, I'd say you need to play Opposing Force and Blue Shift as well. They immerse you in the story.

I was just playing HL source, not really a huge difference. The graphics look the exact same, the only difference is that now the physics engine operates in it (I think, it didn't look too great). The graphics and all that are still the same though.

I'm dissapointed, I thought there was going to be a multiplayer portion to it.

Here ya go. Some of the visual improvements are attributable to my video card, but it does seem as there has been an improvement in some of the textures. I'm not too impressed personally though, the difference isn't substantial by any extent of the imagination.

yeah, same here, not impressed 🙁

seems like they just used a converter and then said all is done, unlike with cs source

That was the point. It's included just as an example of the ability for the Source engine to import original HL maps and such. This has been known for quite some time.

So will mods and Opposing Force work with HL:S?

I'm really surprised they didn't at least use some of the new models from HL2. There are several things they already have the art for that they could have made use of.

Any chance that Valve will... make a real port of HL onto the Source engine? like... any chance they just haven't had time?

I've decided i'll play HL2 on the desktop and keep HL:S on my laptop to keep me occupied. The game runs on SPEED. Does anyone know why this may be? I've got a 1.7 centrino ... it only says my CPU is running at 597mhz in the console. The walk works fine but normal speed I get across the level instantly. Something is definitely wrong. Also, it looks like the crowbar swings like 9 times per second.

Some other group is doing it... completely re-doing the maps, textures, models, etc on source. halflife2.net for info.

I've been playing HL:Source today (my lappy is a little marginal for HL2), and honestly I'm a little disappointed in it. It only differs from HL in the most marginal ways.
