I remember seeing 500gb hard drives on compusa.com last year. I believe that they just stacked several platters together in one, so it wasn't a true single hd.

I heard a while ago that there really wasn't a demand for anything faster than 15k, it was looked at but decided unnessary. From the trends I'd assume physical size is the next big change.
