Hitachi 160GB Hard Drive $39.99 after MIR!!!

Looks hot. New eggs OOS on these it looks like and sells for 92.50+4.60 shipping. 3 Year warranty too and new egg reviews are positive for quietness, heat and performance.

these are essentially IBM drives... they should be good...
but I just got the $30 WD hdd from BB on BF..... still... sweet deall... esp. w/ 3yr warranty...

That looks like a hot price!

For rebates $20 or more, i usually get a certifiicate of mailing from the USPS as a proof that i mailed my rebates on time (cost is 90 cents).

Interesting. I will choose IBM/Hitachi drive among any other drives, because its better than any other drives performance-wise, noise-wise, RMA-wise, and more. And all the IBM drives I used were so reliable. (even 75GXP and 60GXP, which last 3 years, until I RMAed for 7K250, not because of problem, but because I wanted new one for me)

Anyway, this is one of the hottest deals I've recently read. But I always worry about Outpost MIR, because I heard only bad things about it.

You're the ONE person on earth that never had a deathstar problem. Anyone who worked with the drives regularly, such as myself in PC repair, knows they were literally the worst hard drives of the last decade.

Yes, and Jesus Horses once roamed the Earth.

Hitachi drives are fine now, and have been for years.

Just saying those drives were horrible horrible drives. Hitachi bought out the IBM drive division as you know and I've heard things are fine...but I, and many others, are still very wary. When you replace 100+ drives of the same model you tend to avoid that company. That's all I'm saying, i'm sure this has been debated in other threads many many many times.

make that 2 people, I've never had any problem with my 60GB Deathstar.

Not only were the drives bad, but IBM refused to admit their was a problem for a long time. My drive would intermittently crash. IBM tech support would get it working again for a while and it would crash again. IBM knew all along that this drive had a problem. I didn't know at first if it was my drive, power supply, memory, CPU etc. I spent countless hours trying to diagnose the problem while all the time IBM knew they had a bad drive. I will never use another IBM product. I've built several computers and this is the one worst problem I have ever encountered.

Im with waxking on this one. F*&^ IBM and their "only should be used for 8 hours a day" POS drives.

Dang, this is a good deal if rebates come through... I remember when I got my current WD 80GB SE (8MB cache) for $19.99AR from Office Max... that was some sweet action 🙂

Whats interesting to me is, the rebate from I just downloaded says:

" this is for the Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Deskstar 160GB, purchased at full price.'

So all they have to do is say the 99 dollars was not full price and you are screwed, I have never read anything like that in a rebate before.

Who's to say what's the full price. $99 is the full price. It doesn't say MSRP, so it's ok.

Might be their way of discouraging coupons.
