History shows that every world power falls eventually

Going back through history there has always been a change in world power. And historically every world power has a conclusion, so sometimes I wonder when will US/Britain hand over it's crown. Also when the US loses it's power among the other nations, how will it impact the citizens?

Here's a list of world powers in chronological order:

1. Egypt
2. Assyria
3. Bablyon
4. Medo-Persia
5. Greece
6. Rome
7. Anglo-American (current)

The United States has a few more decades in her imo.

The next big thing will probably be India and China. But those two need to spend about 50 years building up a standard of living.

I don't think the US will "fall" in the traditional sense. Europe for example is still huge economic power. They've got their issues and challenges but as societies they haven't disintegrated.

Well in each case of those "empires" they expanded well beyond what they were capable of maintaining. That's pretty much the big reason of their downfall.

I dunno, we are sorta like conquerers of Iraq ..... might not be too big of a stretch. We have bases all over the world. We are working on Afghanistan too. I hear Iran is on the menu next. Where will we stop?

Globalization has basically insured that anyone "power" can't completely collapse. The world economy is too tightly woven together for that to happen. Borders are disappearing it is becoming one world.

Empires expand for economic gain and military might. I don't see how Iraq helped our economy or our military when it's sort of gone the opposite way.

Hmm, not sure I agree with that. Because of racial, political and religious prejudices there are always going to be reasons to create borders. Also how does the US currently contribute to the world economy? As far as I know the US does'nt really have much by the way of exports. (I suppose certain technologies could be considered)

Depending what figures you use the US is either the 2nd or 3rd largest exporter in the world.

Having foreign military bases and liberating countries is not what makes an empire. I think you need to look up the definition.

I don't see the anglo-american as one power. It started off with european powers which have since been lost, and are being reborn in sorts in the form of the EU. Imperialism has largely come to an end, with even the US backing down slowly. The US's power really peaked around 1965 and again around 1990. The Soviet Union was the last major power to actually fall. And although the US is slipping, I don't see it coming into a collapse, but a long slow "decline" as the EU and asian countries catch up.

One thing that will significantly help the world in the decline of a major single "empire" is that even in the midst of all the disagreements, there is still an unprecedented level of cooperation between various governments. More and more government are seeing that stable is good for everyone, and trying to horde power just keeps themselves down (Kim, read the memo)
