im not sure i see your argument

Not really an argument, according to history every world power falls at some point. What will happen in the US once that occurs? Increased terrorism? Further decreases in economy? Increased crime?

Globalization has basically insured that anyone "power" can't completely collapse. The world economy is too tightly woven together for that to happen. Borders are disappearing it is becoming one world.

Hmm, not sure I agree with that. Because of racial, political and religious prejudices there are always going to be reasons to create borders. Also how does the US currently contribute to the world economy? As far as I know the US does'nt really have much by the way of exports. (I suppose certain technologies could be considered)

Depending what figures you use the US is either the 2nd or 3rd largest exporter in the world.

But what do they export?

Food, technology, heavy equipment, services, aircraft, cars, medicine, chemicals, media, etc.

No idea how long we'll last but thanks for not being ignorant and calling the US an "empire." LOL

I dunno, we are sorta like conquerers of Iraq ..... might not be too big of a stretch. We have bases all over the world. We could st

Empires expand for economic gain and military might. I don't see how Iraq helped our economy or our military when it's sort of gone the opposite way.

Doh, Hit reply before I was done.

In 2006 U.S. exports grew by 12.7 percent over 2005 to $1.4 trillion

Are you sure we export nothing?

Having foreign military bases and liberating countries is not what makes an empire. I think you need to look up the definition.

We are not liberating anything. We are just supposed to be there to deactivate WMDs. Saddam must have hid them really really well though since we haven't found them.

the us/canada/uk/aus cultural bond that stretches the globe is something so called rising powers cannot compete with. english is the biggest strength, and that it is used by so many races/countries. past empires had no instant world mass media. it was easy to wall bits off. and well much of power today is cultural. and chinas raped their own culture in the past with their cultural revolution and continued repression.

Here's a list of world powers in chronological order:

1. Egypt
2. Assyria
3. Bablyon
4. Medo-Persia
5. Greece
6. Rome
7. Anglo-American (current)

Your list sucks.

It's a really good question, but no other empire has ever had such a far reaching ability to destroy any enemy. Without getting into an argument about the logistics of war and people shouting about Viet Nam or Iraq, the United States is the first empire that *CAN* destroy entire countries. Not that it will or should, but if ever faced with a serious threat, it's a viable option to maintain power.
