I strained my HF this past saturday rolling at open mat. It feels okay today, but I know that even once somethin liek this feels okay, it prob still isnt. I have muy thai in 3 hours..open mat and then mma after that at 8. Should I skip today ? Skip tomorrow too? Or just go anyways. Knowing me I would prob. just go, but this is an injury that I can't really deal with because it effects a lot of different movements for me.

Well i do stretch pretty good..hip..groin, etc. I'm not sure though if 2 days is a enough time for it to be okay. It hurt pretty bad sat. night still. I really don't want to re-hurt it, but if I'm okay, I would also not want to miss any training time.

I had trouble with my left hip flexor in April/May of this year. Biking and running are what did it for me. My doctor prescribed a particular NSAID (cataflam I think) and I did extra stretching and reduced my workload for two weeks. It healed up quickly enough in those 2 weeks for me to compete in a 15 mile trail race. My time wasn't the best but respectable and it was pain free.

Just take it easy, ice it up, do the stretching, take anti inflammatories as necessary and you should heal up. Not in 2 days though I'm afraid.

You don't want to stretch something that has been sprained. As this is a traumatic injury (i.e. once-off from impact or misstep) and not a chronic one, the best way to heal it is to let it be and do nothing with it. That would probably include not KICK BOXING. Ibuprofen probably can't hurt.

Yeah, things don't heal in a day, especially with something like a hip strain. It might even be tendinitis in your hip. If that's the case, it will take much longer than even a week. Things you can do to help are exercises that get it to move, but don't hurt it more than a light throb. Go for a 10-15 min walk today and see how that feels. You might be able to use an elliptical or a bike next to get a better range of motion with use. Be careful. If it keeps bugging you, try to see a doctor who understand that sports are a way of life and he will probably give you a prescription to physical therapy.

My stretches were more range of motion exercises, but my doc told me to keep moving it but not to bike or run heavily. It did heal up fairly quickly though thank god.
