Highpoint 366 is SUCK!

For some reason alot of IBM drives have problems with the Highpoint Controllers period.

Don't think they ever fixed any of those lockup problems either.

Which is why I had to buy a Promise ATA100 controller for my IBM 75GXP drive.

I was having massive lockup and BSOD under NT4.0 and Win2K (enerything was okay under '98se); then I bought a Promise Ultra/66...haven't had any problem since....

i am running Abit BE6 (which has integrated HP366) and i am running IBM 372050 (thatz the 34GXP 20G version)

absolutely no problem

my friend also bought an

Iwill HP370 Raid with 2*IBM 307015 in raid 0 mode

also absolutely NO problem at all

Highpoint is SUCK!!!!!

Why does Abit keep putting that Highpoint CRAP onto their MBs???

I had a BP6 and a stand alone Highpoint card and neighor one of those ATA66 controlers werer any good. I finally just put my worst drives on my "best controler the LOWPoint" and gave up.

The Highpoint wouldn't recognize CD-rom drives and it was slower than the built in BX-ata33 controler on the MB. I have always wondered if Highpoint was selling ATA33s (with compatiblity problems) as ATA66s.

This is the single reason why I am reluctant to buy another Abit MB.

yah i have to admit hpt366 does suck really bad not worth using at all.in comparring in hdtach hpt366 i was getting 28mb/s switch to cusl2 with same harddrive which is wd 15gb ata66 im getting 60mb/s

No problems here with my integrated hp66 chip. HDTach scores are right where they should be too.

Another happy HPT366 owner. I don't benchmark my system, but I have no reason to believe that it's running in a hindered manner with my WD ATA66.

Unhappy owner. Nothing but problems with my controller. The thing I hate most is that abit says its the drives fault, quantum things its high points fault, and high point things its abits fault. They are all just dicking us around.

Email highpoint, tell them your problem, and they should send you unreleased drivers for the HPT366 chip, which supposedly fixes the incompatibility problem with IBM 75GXP drives. I contacted highpoint myslef when I had the same problem on my BE6-II, but I am using my Promise ATA/66 and since I will soon have an MSI 694D Pro-A I'm not even going to worry about testing those new unreleased highpoint drivers....well maybe they are released now on their web page, but they weren't when I contacted them.

Where did I hear this?

After 2 weeks of wrestling and trying to figure out if it was a defective drive, I emailed IBM tech support and they admitted there is a huge problmes with IBM drives and highpoint chipset controllers.

Yeah, hp366 is an absolute piece of sh!t. Used to have the add in card with a ibm 372050 and the whole system would freeze during a disk access lasting over about 5 secs. Absolutely no warning, however, on either the highpoint or abit websites explaining that they don't give a damn.

After my experiences with it, I swore never to touch an abit product again.

DEE:
I dont believe that I saw a warning on the IBM website anywhere...did you boycott them too? 🙂

Kinda strange since I was having the same problem also with my old mainboard with the hp 366 controller on it and a Ibm 34 gpx harddrive. I never could put my finger on it, if it was really a compatibility issue with the Hardrive and hp controller since other forum memmbers where not having these issues with the same hardrive and Mainboard setup as me, but I continued to see many news group postings on these issues with the HP 366 and Ibm and Maxtor hardrives. Possibly there was a pcb revision on these Ibm and Maxtor hardive controllers that where causing these issues with some users while other owners never experianced any issues. That same hardrive that never worked right on the Hp366 runs flawless on either my Intel ata100 ide controller or my Promise ultra 66 card.

I used to have lockups and problems with my WD hard drive on my high point ata/66 controller on be6 until I upgraded to the newest drivers and/or Windows 98SE. Now it works fine.

Hey Rain, and to think I almost kept that IMB drive I got from you and put it in my machine and let the Maxtor go. Well, I put an IBM drive on a Soyo board with a HP controller on a rig for a family memenber and all seems fine so far.
