Actually

the reason why Intelligent people are more likely to fail is because success comes from single mindedness.

The ability to do one thing and one thing well. to do it repititiously isn't usually a characteristic of someone with an extremely high intelligence. they tend to be more abstract and have too many thought processess going at the same time. these attributes don't generally lead to success in any area of life.

seems to me the higher the IQ the less likely they are to commit. to commit to anything. if for no other reason than because there is soo much more to see, to learn, to understand that these "geniuses" find it impossible to make a commitment to the present. :)

just an opinion of course.

oh, and just in case anyone decides to ask (and no one will). I scored over 190 on an IQ test in Junior High. Not that it did me any good. it took me 10 years to get a bachelors degree, 4 years to get a masters degree, i'm 37 now and finally starting a career. so, i can testify High IQ does not equal Success in business.

What's funny is that an IQ over about 130 only happens in about 2% of the population, and yet of the 25 or so posts here, 6 people have already claimed to have an IQ high enough to be eligible for Mensa. Me thinks some of you have confused your IQ score with your BS score.

And no, ATers aren't any more intelligent on average than the rest of society.

Note: I was kidding. I don't know my IQ but I imagine it is about average, maybe a bit above.

Also, I think that ATers might have a higher on average intelligence (though not nearly what the members proclaim) than the rest of the population. Many here are geeks, and geeks tend to be a bit more intelligent.

I've never had my IQ tested for two reasons:
Ill gain false confidence from a test that means little in the real world
Or Ill be horribly depressed.

I consider myself an intelligent person, but I honestly think it is what you do with your mind that matters. People who change the world are by no means those with a high IQ score. I'm 14, And I'm proud that I only know one language, learned to read only slightly early, and can still be proven wrong and lose debates.

Hmm, accoring to my psych textbook, the person with the highest iq ever RECORDED was Maryln Mach vos Savant, at 230.

And what does Marilyn vos Savant do? She writes a weekly advice column for Parade magazine.. A ridiculously high IQ does not necessarily equate with a career of making breakthroughs that chance or advance society as a whole.

I have heard that the only real thing that IQ tests measure effectively is how well people score on IQ tests.

I figured. I don't think I counted you (It's 6 without you...riiiiiiiiight). I will agree that they may be higher than average, but only by a few points. Certainly not Mensa material, otherwise they wouldn't be hanging around these forums. ;)

On most tests (Example) I score far above average. To my opinion those tests only show your ability to think the same way as the authors of the test. Kinda like tactical games: If you can outthink your opponent you've won.

On the BBC test posted a few days ago I had only 136.

Those people probably took those online tests and heard all of the questions before or something.

All my scores put me at 115-125.

hmmm.... don't jump to conclusions.

William James Sidis, the world-famous child prodigy thought to have 'burned out', in fact left great discoveries in books and articles, many written under pseudonyms.

Revolutionary is his general theory of the phenomena of the universe based on the theory of probability The Animate and the Inanimate. This work is complete here. Many recent discoveries by the in-orbit Hubble Telescope and other NASA and EU satellites are finding that his theory may be correct. See Astrobiology Today below.

His 100,000-year history of North America, The Tribes and the States, is also revolutionary. He learned the language of the wampum (written Native-American history), and then used the wampum as his sources for the first part of this magnificent 620-page manuscript. At present the first thirteen chapters are online as the typing continues.

Many of his works are still missing. His sister Helena, as well as Dr. Abraham Sperling, an early biographer, reported seeing a dozen manuscripts. You are invited to search for the rest...

My second cousin has the highest measured IQ in Finland (somewhere between 180-195 if I remember correctly). He works as a bartender.

I took an IQ test when I was 15 and confined to a uhhhh... 'hospital' for chronic behavioural problems.
I scored a 118... which I thought was pretty damn cool.

Over 10 years, and countless amounts of illicit drugs, later I imagine my IQ has steadily fallen to somewhere in the 60 range....
however I am quite confident I could still outsmart a learning disabled monkey.

I was a member of Mensa for a while. I let my membership expire because they seemed to be nothing but a bunch of holier-that-thou, "my IQ is 983, you are an idiot", "stupid people should be castrated" jerks.

I am in mensa so I guess that takes the BS count down to 5 ;). not active tho :(. My local mensa think tank consists of people who like to go around and continually blab about how much smarter they are...thats a rarity in mensa (I understand) really haven't had much experince outside of the local mensa croud tho.
