Higher taxes stymie job creation

No matter what I say it is going to be wrong.

Tax and spend on social programs does not create the same amount of jobs that tax and build an interstate highway does. If someone wants a free college education, join the military and use the GI bill.

I hope yall enjoy the socialist hellhole we are heading towards. Taxing the rich at 70 - 90 percent will drive the economy into a nosedive.

I have explained exactly why the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s are not the same as today. The government was using that money to build the nation.

As of yet, not a single person (that I have seen) has explained why higher taxes would work today. We are no longer nation building; we should be maintaining what was built during the 1950s - 1970s, and we can not even do that. We pay a lot of money in fuel taxes, and can not even have decent roads to drive on, and our bridges are falling apart.

If people wanted to fix something, fix amazon getting a tax refund rather than paying taxes.

If we want to rebuild & maintain our infrastructure we have to be able to pay for it, either through borrowing or taxes or a combination of both. Well, unless you think the Job Creators will do it on their own.

Lets pay for it by forcing companies like Amazon to pay taxes.

It seems like no matter what president is in office, companies like amazon, exxon, microsoft... do not pay their fair share.

Posts 18, 23, 24, 26, 28, 34, 36, 38, 40, 90 and 91 all discuss the investment implications of higher taxes but NOBODY has taken the time to respond to OP's coherent and well-researched discussion points in post #1. 🙄

They already think they did or should get to. Not even joking, that was one of the arguments used to "call out" Obama when he said the "you didn't build it" remark when talking about infrastructure that required government planning and action that no private company could (or should be allowed to) do on its own. Some of it was simply going "actually private contractors did literally build it" (ignoring how that's not what he meant, his point is that the government is the one that is vested with enabling such things - like the planning and taking bids and funding such large things, and then managing/controlling them so that private companies don't do stupid crap that would cause chaos like deciding the costs are too high halfway through and abandoning it, etc). Likewise, to them, they think that by going "our taxes pay the government" was some gotcha (when, well, duh, and again deliberately missing the intent of the comment). It was saying that the government is responsible for infrastructure because the costs often exceed what private industry could (or would be willing) to put up, and that the government would consider societal good so that the private company can't decide to start implementing discriminatory practices, ignore environmental protections, or just generally fuckery (anyone remember "Bridge-gate"? think shit like that, only it would be legal, but somehow the free market would allegedly be able to do something about it?).

Yeah dude, I live in the EU and you're spot on with this shit. Gotta go now, have to hurry up so I don't have to wait too long in the bread line.

Btw, don't tell anyone I posted this or it's gonna be the gulag for me.

Derp. No problem, except republicans didn't do that. The closest the came was the president trying to Twitter war target "liberal" corporations, lol.

Can't make this shit up.

I second that. Maybe it is that we have managed to contain capatalism, squeeze enough good from it and only get little of the bad AND we have managed to contain socialism, squeeze enough from it and very little of the bad..... Just MAYBE.

Nah, freemarket all the things and taxation is theft.

TH is hilarious:

When the taxes were higher we had the greatest job and wage growth in US history and accomplished great feats and built great things as a country

So according to you now there is no reason to do the thing we did before that made us great because... reasons.

TH, were we a socialist hell hole in the 40s, 50s and 60s?

What I think is going on here is you're realizing how weak and ideology based your argument is. And now you're painting pictures of your ideology's version of "bad" to reassure yourself of your position.

Deep down you know your position is untenable. You know history shows it has failed in comparison to the alternative. So you paint pictures of this "bad" thing. A kind of ideological "hell" that will happen if your beliefs are not followed.

I guess that's why Europe can not even produce their own natural gas?

Hows being Russias pawn working out?

Can yall even feed yourself without help?

But, the downside is that instead of real football, you got stuck with that silly European kickball...the stuff we let our little girls play... 😛

Well, yeah, that sort of thing happens when you're so willfully obtuse and disconnected from reality.

No, not at all. I see a big difference between today, and the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

Everyone is ignoring the nation building that was going on. Just the rural electrification program created tens of thousands of jobs and lasted decades. What comparable programs does the government have going on today? None that I can think of.

Dam building lasted decades and created tens of thousands of jobs across a wide range of industries. Anything going on like that today?

Everyone who says "higher taxes creates jobs" has not given a single exact example how how the jobs are created, expect me.

I have given exact examples of why higher taxes created jobs in the 1940s - 1970s, and why it will not work today.

The only way raising taxes will truly boost the economy is if the government creates nation wide construction projects, which is not going to happen.

Aww did I hit a nerve?

We can feed ourselves just fine, considering we're ahead of you in most (all?) relevant metrics when it comes to standard of living. Let me know when you clowns decide to catch up.
