Looks like the "good old days" are with us again! RAM module prices are super high, looks like the party is over. Corsair Value RAM DDR400 went from a low of $65 to todays high of $195. Quality DDR2 modules in 2GB kits are like $300.

Are the mfg's price gouging us? Do you think they're conspiring? Is demand really that high and supply low?
 
Demand is high so they've bumped up the prices to reap max profits. You can blame Conroe and the looming Vista / Christmas. That and everyone wanting 2 gig nowadays.
 
Be happy that they were as cheap as they were for as long as they were. Dont tell me you wouldnt do the same in their situation
 
I had been halfway throwing around the idea of upgrading to a Conroe system, but with RAM prices completely out of control like they are now, I certainly won't be doing that any time soon (unless I use a motherboard that takes DDR1, hmm....)

I paid $55 (used) for my second gig of Corsair PC3200 Value RAM back in February, so luckily I won't be needing more RAM any time soon as long as I stick with my current system.
 
If I needed new RAM I would just buy it. I would not be happy about paying the higher prices, but I would still buy it.

In a market economy prices will fluctuate based on supply and demand, so I am not going to worry about whether I am paying an extra $30 for my RAM, since it is pretty much out of my hands.

The best we can do is shop around to try and find the best price.
 
I'm in the UK - prices went as low as £111 briefly for 2GB DDR2 667Mhz at 4-4-4-12; I've bought with a new system at £141 in a hope to beat further price increases, and just a few days after it's already gone to £147, and will probably keep rising.... just got to hope it all works when I assemble my system!
 
yeah, the prices are a bitch. exactly 1 year ago i bought 1 gig (2x512) of kingston valueram for $40 AR... the price is now more than double that which seems very unusual for any kind of technology...

but, having said that, i got a 2 gig set yesterday, so if i sell this 1 gig, i can actually make a hefty profit... go figure 🙂
 
There was a corsair 2GB DDR2 800 kit on newegg that was a little over $200 a few weeks ago and now it is $300-ish. Amazing.

It doesn't bother me too much though because I'm not buying the stuff for a long time, I got my 2GB DDR 400 kit back in april for $180 and that'll last me awhile. Now for customers computers, well I suppose if they want RAM they gotta pay the higher price.
 
Personally I wouldnt let it delay me at this point. Now if it goes up another $100 or more. Maybe then. RAM is still reasonable considering the performance benefits you get with it and assuming the modules dont go bad you'll have it for a long time. Right now I got delays due to other things. Like no decent Conroe/SLI mobos. To me thats a bigger issue. But thats just me.
 
I am just surprised it didn't happen sooner..I reckon they will rise again in early 07..

That's caused something of a knock on effect on the market for DDR memory chips. The Dramurai had hoped that by now the market would go nuts for DDR-2 chips, but consumers, being the fickle souls they are, appear to believe there's nothing too much to be gained by buying an upmarket PC with suitable memory

its a ripoff. they play us consumers like fools.

edit- i will buy at some point before xmas because i owe a new system to my son. otherwise, i'd wait for ddr3.
 
I don't care, I bought my 2GB kit for $130. People bitch out how RAM prices are ridiculously high right now, but they forget how much RAM used to cost a few years back. I was checking my newegg order history last night, looking at my 2002 orders, and 1GB of PC3200 was $186. DVD writer was $200+. That's some expensive sh!t.

I just wish they'd come out with a conroe motherboard with DDR1 support and an uncompromised PCI-E solution. I shouldn't hold my breath, thats a bizarre melding of old and new technology I guess. The asrock is close but not quite there.

Regardless, I'm pretty happy with what I have. I think I'm just going to get off the upgrade train for awhile. I already have more machine then I need.

Lol, Yeah DVD Writers were heavy duty prices I remember one of the first Teak writer being close to a grand $ 1,000(. But ram is a different proposition....I actually thought DDR2 prices would spike when AMD M2 hit the scene but that didn't really happen until we saw Core 2 duo which is what we are seeing. But consider this.....Core 2 Quad is coming soon and in January Vista so I think things will get quite hairy on the DDR2 front for most of the coming year.
I too am sorted as I got my high speed 4Gb earlier this year at a reasonable price,

BTW.. there is absolutely no need for anything above PC 6400 ..so don't be stupid.

I go back more years than that to when mem was $50 per MB ... that's meg gents. It's hard to get excited about the current "price hike".

I go back to SIPPS when 1 meg was nearly 1000 bucks! Was for the Intel Above board and it was LIMsim compatible. Now go look up LIMsim. hehehe. I feel old now. 🙁

Yup. LLK is good ...1.8v ...very nice at stock and plenty room if for some reason you wanna run higheer.
