High End equipment in Dorms?

Well I finally completed my Yamaha RX-2500 (I know the RX-2600 was just released. But it only had HDMI over the 2500. I do my hdmi/dvi switching externally. Plus the price of the 2500 dropped 🙂 to half of what it used to be.) Axiom VP150, 2x M22ti, 2x M3ti, 2X QS4s, Velodyne DSP1000 and a Westinghouse 37" LVM 37w1. Now When I go to college with this kickass soundsystem next fall I take it's not a good idea to have roomates. Is it possible to live in dorms w/o roommates (too expensive). I was on craiglist in boston a little while ago checking possiblities out. I figured maybe I could find graduate roommates? Or would they generally not even given a hoot about a small fry freshman? I'm just trying to figure somethings out. I have some pretty expensive ****** (cloths, laptop, computer, TV/Monitor/ 7.1 soundsystem). I'm just worried about who I'll be staying with. Any ideas?

would it even fit in a dorm room?

get a plastic chinese stereo and tv at walmart and not worry about it.

Housing is expensive in Boston dude, I'm sure it's cheaper to stay in dorms. Also, what makes you think graduate roommates are any different from undergraduate roommates? To be honest, I'd leave that stuff at home and get a nice set of headphones, because that's probably what you'll use most, as you are not likely to find a cheap place that has a low enough population density that you won't disturb people with your sound system.

I crammed six 12" subwoofers, 1800 w of amplifiers, (all seperates, of course), a pair of B&W 803s, and a 32" TV into a dorm room. So basically we had a 32" TV flanked by 3 foot stacks of electronics on either side. The good news was you only had to walk a foot and a half to flip the laserdiscs. 🙂

I think you'll be fine. The important thing is to get a $15 used la-z-boy recliner to compliment your system. That and a handle of captain morgan and you'll be good to go.

Well I live in quincy which is about a 30min T ride to pretty much all the major schools. If my parents buy a house here next year then it'll be better if I just commute. But damn, I'll miss teh sweet dorm live with all the see through panties/bras wearing asian chicks walking around. I DON'T WANT TO MISS ANY OF THAT!!!.

What's wrong with you?

Yeah, a graduate student is going to want to have a freshman roommate. Jeesh. Keep wearing that letter jacket too, they're cool. 😉

I wouldn't bring it if you're living in a dorm.

Dude just leave your stuff at home and do what elfenix and thelanx said. You're not gonna get to actually USE your equipment at any reasonable level in a dorm. Also, if you're really gonna be using all that stuff constantly, you're gonna end up missing out on the fun life anyway. The point of dorm life is NOT to stay in your room all the damn time watching tv. Get out, get drunk go crazy.... sheesh. newbie freshman. Just don't get it.

Go, CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP with a soundsystem, particularly in a dorm or apartment. Don't worry about mind-numbing bass. Get some cheap ass <$100 set of surround speakers and a decent receiver/components. It's not worth it. Seriously. Go cheap. Anything else is simply overkill for a dorm room. That way, if anything gets bumped, cracked, broken, it's easy to chalk it up as a loss. Ditto on the headphones comment. Dorms and/or apartments + Big soundsystems = headaches for you and your neighbors. I have little doubt that you'll still take your expensive stuff to college, but one day you'll recognize my wisdom, damnit. 😉

There are sometimes ways to live alone in a dorm but I would recommend against it.

I had 3000k worth of stereo

:Q

That's nothing I'll have a $2000 TV, $2200 Stereo System, $2500 Computer, $1700 Laptop, and about $2000 of cloths. So $10,400 of stuff in a 12x10 room.

$10,400 < $3,000,000

Woa damn didn't see the k. I'm beat.

I just wouldn't bring all that stuff to a dorm. It's not worth the risks. I'd only consider it if I had a singles dorm room, but then all that crap probably wouldn't fit.

Hmmm, I know my dad is just itching for me to leave my stuff home. Maybe I should live the college life and then come home everyonce in a while for hte theater experiance 🙂. Do women tend to steal? I have simmons and emuneual college as my safety schools. They only turned Coed 2 years ago 🙂

I had entry level 7.1 going in my dorm but it was a single room so I didn't have to worry too much about disturbing someone inside the room. If you're respectful of others and only play stuff loudly at reasonable hours and turn it down if anyone asks, then it might not be a big issue. I think this depends a lot on the atmosphere of your dorm and who you're living with and around.

This was kind of in a transitional phase, but I had a decent amount of stuff crammed into the room.

tv off its stand to make room

testing the projector

That room was about 12x10.

Oh, and I don't see anything high end on your list 😉
