Normal in the case of the 4790K covers a wide range of temperatures.
So its normal temps or not?

Somebody said to me"you probably don't have the cpu cooler pins pushed all the way in correctly. check that it is properly installed and all 4 pins/legs are pushed in and click on the back of mobo. that's way too hot for that chip to be running at stock clocks"

So?

So?

If the chip is running at more than 4ghz on all cores under load, then it is being overclocked, and the stock cooler cannot handle that, and the temps you are seeing are normal.

Run HWInfo while running the CPU-Z stress test and see if all cores go above 4ghz.

Ok so can i play with 90-100C ?Or better not?

the stock cooler cannot handle that

Read that part again.

No, you cannot play with those temps. Your CPU will be throttling a lot.

First, see if your board is overclocking the chip.

Then report back.

I really don't think that the 4790K is designed to run at 100C. I mean, it might "run", as in "throttle to save its life", but it's not designed to run at 100C as a normal operating temperature.

Intel designed and warranty it run at 100C 24/7. Then the rest is simply semantics.

You can play. You are not damaging anything. However at 100C you may lose performance due to throttle. Check the parts about BIOS settings and such. And if no change, then consider an aftermarket cooler to get the full potential.

The thermtrip temperature is 135C or so. This is what Intel defines as dangerous. And at that temperature it will simply shut off.

I would test it with prime95 and see if its throttling at stock speeds. If its throttling, send it back under warranty and get a new one. Running at such high temps will degrade the cpu much faster and the warranty is only for 3years.

Just make sure it doesn't run above 4Ghz with 4+ threads at any time. because then its motherboard autooverclocking. :)

On Prime 95 is throttling from 4,2ghz to 4ghz ( 3990 mhz ).
Temps are 100C.

But in games like Crysis 3 temps oscilating between 90-100C. Can i play with that?
ANd it is normal temps for stock cooler or not?:)

Disable multicore enhancement in your BIOS. Its quite clear you got auto overclocking on. That should help on temperature when gaming.

From looking at the specs on your case, it comes with just two fans. Get a third 120mm fan for the top exhaust, should help.

Last question. Somebody said :"Definitely not normal. Something is wrong with your set up."

So i dont know what to think now. It is normal temps for stock cooler or really something wrong?

Its normal when your motherboard autooverclocks.

The only question left is, why haven't you disabled this in BIOS yet? It was said so already in the start of the thread and you seem to have ignored it.

It should be noted that some boards automagically enable MCE (multi-core enhancement - auto-overclocking), when you enable XMP for the RAM. So you may also need to disable XMP, and set memory clocks / timing / voltage manually.

Technically, running at 4ghz is not throttling. It is just not utilizing turbo. But I believe it "should" clock to 4.2 even on all cores, but maybe not on Prime 95.

As others have said, make sure multicore enhancement is not on. I am not clear whether you have done this or not. Also as others have said, check what frequency you are running when playing Crysis.

And yes, you can play with the temps at 90 to 100 deg C. If you hit 100 you may lose some performance due to throttling, but short term at least, I dont think you will damage the CPU. Not sure I would want to run those temps long term though. The stock cooler for 4790k is marginal, you probably should get a better one at some point.

OF course i dont mean always 100C in Black Ops 3. I am getting 100C in few places in 1 mission. Overall is 80C-90C.
In Crysis 3 in Welcome to the jungle is 90-100C. Other games are 70-80C.
So i guess that temps are because that stock cooler is just weak?

Most likely yes, but have you disabled MCE in your BIOS yet? ShintaiDK has kept mentioning this fact to you, but it seems like you keep ignoring it. Your motherboard BIOS may be auto-overclocking your CPU, which is causing it to run outside of specifications (too hot).

I must disable first to find that options.

By the way:

It is safe to play games with 80C - 90C - sometimes 100C ? Or i cant play?

Guys, this is Litwicki. He has the same thread once again running at most popular forums simultaneously ... everything he has overheats and rattles.

Yes, the repetition gives it away every time.

you have a 300+ dollar cpu.

why screw around with a stock cooler.

get a good aftermarket solution.

Doh, I should have seen it >.<.

Also fits the part where he ignores suggestions.
