Dig a hole. You'll need it eventually.

Hehe. Join the club. I guess I shouldn't be laughing, but I'm in the same predicament. More on the triglycerides than anything else, but if I can stop eating grease 3 meals a day it should help. Hard to do with all the fast food places around, but I'm at least slowly coming around. Best of luck to you.

some of these comments are hilarious 🙂

but on a serious note, i will give my 2 cents. . . .exercise will increase your HDL (think healthy). . . .diet (esp. eating MORE nuts & oatmeal) will decrese your LDL (think lousy) & total cholesterol about 10%. . . .flush free niacin & chinese red yeast are both OTC meds to lower cholesterol. . . .if that doesn't work after a few months, you may have to resort to taking a statin (like lipitor etc.). good luck!

Got back the results from my blood work yesterday. My cholesterol and LDL are high, at least according to the quack doctor. I'm on my way to pick up a pepperoni pizza. When I return, perhaps some of you can give some suggestions on how to lower my cholesterol?

I went vegan for 10 weeks last year. No animal products, at all, for 10 weeks. My cholesterol readings, direct from the blood tests:

10/13/2007 (Sat) 140
06/16/2007 (Sat) 208

You don't need drugs. Just a diet change.

Those OTC "no flush" niacin are pretty much useless.

Stay away from Pizzas, eat boiled stuff, run a lot and avoid tensions; check in the next 6-8 weeks if that makes any difference.

The total choleserol numbers don't mean anything since high HDLs are good + high LDLs are bad.

What are your LDLs? How old are you?
Was this the first cholesterol test you have taken. If now, then what was your LDL history?

For what it is worth, my total cholesterol numbers were always on the high side no matter what my diet & weight was or exercise level. 230s. The only thing that ever lowered my LDLs and total cholesterol was Lipitor.

That article is ridiculous; I'm sorry that you believe it.

The popular view of cholesterol is equally ridiculous.

Indeed; dietary cholesterol intake has little to no effect on serum cholesterol levels. The more cholesterol you take in, the less your body makes, and vice versa. It's more determined by exercise, quality of foods you eat, and genetics. I eat eggs every single day and have no cholesterol problems whatsoever.
