A plan to build a mosque in this Houston suburb has triggered a neighborhood dispute, with community members warning the place will become a terrorist hotbed and one man threatening to hold pig races on Fridays just to offend the Muslims.

I wonder if they would have gotten as mad if church was being built instead? I kinda doubt it.

Though he now concedes the Muslims are probably not after his land, Baker said he is obligated to go through with the pig races, probably within the next few weeks, because ?I would be like a total idiot if I didn?t. I?d be the laughingstock now because I?ve gone too far.?

Yeah, he'll totally look like an idiot if he doesn't go through with it.

When Muslims congregate in large numbers, it's a bad thing:

Link to an interesting Slashdot post that quotes a number of external sources regarding the social impact of the ongoing Islamification of Europe.

Islam is a cancer that infects humanity, in my opinion. The world would be a better place without it.

Are you still going to support their cause after they nuke us? Islam is nothing but the spread of violence and we should not condone such things.

hehe, knows he'd look like an idiot, but now he's trapped by his own words. Not because he's trapped, but because he's too much an idiot to see he isn't.

I love these people. If anything we should encourage more of his type to come forward and take a stand!

Its far easier to know whose who when they stand up and declare it to the world!

I still like the term a local radio personality branded the confederate flag backers here in Atlanta, he called them "Flaggots" . It was so nice they were quite willing to stand in front of a camera and declare the ignorance.

Well i'm not offended, by either party. I think its funny though, I saw a slashdot post once about a creationist museum opening in like Wyomming or something and every slashdotter was offended at the thought of such a thing and even more offended at anyone else who was not offended. No one cried religious prejuidice there, but once it's a mosque opposing it's construction is flat out bigotry. For the record, i think opposing either is equally ignorant. Anyways just my two cents.

I'm sure plenty of other people would have gotten mad if a church was built near them. Specifically one poster who was frustrated with nativity scenes on public property.

I don't see why any of this is a big deal, its just a building with a different shape to it. People need to stop being so easily offended. I guess it hasn't occured that the "getting along" lesson they were supposed to learn in kindergarden still hasn't sunk in.

I wonder if YOU would have gotten mad if it was a church being built and a bunch of muislims were trying to block it? I kinda doubt it.

Why would a musliom be offended by pig races? It's not like they worship them or anything. Now if he held a BBQ and had people running around with pig grease on thier hands and faces ringing the doorbell of the mosque... now that would be offensive.

Well, there is a bit of a difference to be honest. A mosque is a place of worship, like a church. It is their right to worship whatever god they choose. On the other hand, the creationist museum was designed to undermine science with lies, and promote a very closed-minded view of the world.

There are 7 million Muslims in the U.S.

If you feel they are going to kill your family then shouldn't you go out there and kill them? I mean that is how you sound when you post stuff like what you just did.

Am I wrong?

If it's just a mosque that's one thing, but if they intend to use it to preach hate against the USA, then it should be burned to the ground; followed by an open pit barbecue.

Your opinion is nice, but what does your opinion have to do with the right to build a mosque?

So you are suggesting that we stop peaceful people who are Americans from practicing their religion because you are the one who is peaceful/right?

Sounds like you are the one who is instigating the problems if you had your way. Therefore it would be you who would be in the wrong.

It's a nice thing to learn

Muslims in the U.S do not have a problem with the U.S where they will go around preaching the kind of stuff they preach in Europe for example.

I am pretty sure they have a serious problem with Bush and his tactics however. Some probably love Bush, so I shouldn't generalize. I also don't think they will generally agree with U.S policy, most minorities today don?t (democrats).

Muslims in the U.S are generally educated and wealthy as a result of their hard-work. Whereas in Europe Muslims are generally poor as a lack of their education.

Not saying there haven't been a few bad apples here and there. Nothing is perfect, but in Europe the number of bad apples is more than just a "few".

In Europe they spread messages of murder and killings. In the U.S that is very rare and any such action would result in the community condemning them (Muslims condemning as well) and most likely instant deportation or arrest.

If the thread title was different "Muslims mad over plan to build giant Church in town" I guarantee the people who are just rambling on in this thread about their fear/hate/insecuirty (whatever u want to call it) would be calling them animals. Yet when it is the "white christian man" nothing is wrong with that.

I might support their proposed Mosque. However, the locals may have a right to deny them the right to their Call-To-Prayer going over loudspeakers 5 times a day. I think that is a little too much for some neighborhoods. This is like me playing christian songs over my loudspeaker 5 times a day. I see no reason why they can come to a compromise. A church bell 5 times a day playing a non christian melody could be one possible compromise.

I see no reason why the community has to make special allowances, that they do not make for Christians, just because some group wants to build a mosque. The problem may arise from Muslims wanting everything their way. Noise pollution or non english songs over a loudspeaker may just be too much for some people to put up with. This is one of main problems with a Mosque Proposal. If they just agreed to keep if fairly quiet and did not interfere with other peoples rights and the common peace of the community, this may just all go away. I would not be so quick to condemn the peoples misgivings about all the noise pollution that can come from a mosque.
