Yeah, I'm also white and a law enforcement officer. I go to a black barber shop. I just get a much closer haircut there (high and tight), then I get alcohol rubbed on my scalp (never happened in a white barber shop,...I like it). When I go I do stick out like a sore thumb but I'm treated nicely and get a great haircut. The only drawback is that I tend to have to wait a long time because it's a busy shop.

I do occasionally see another white person there, he drops off the mail and then leaves :)

BTW- if you're white and walk into a black barber shop, it is traditional for a record player arm to scratch across the record and everyone go silent and look at you. It's some kind of law.

That is exactly what happened when I walked into the rosco's chicken and waffles in south-central with my wife, brother and his friend; all of us dressed to go to a Michelin star restaurant later that day.

You can go to a black hair shop if you are a guy...but I'd never go to a white female hair shop cause that shit would not be good. I am 99% positive that a white stylist has never dealt with a mane like mine. I have really thick, long hair. There aren't even many black hair stylists that I can trust with my hair cause they always want to cut it or chemically straighten it so they can have an easier time with it.

My stylist is an african lady that knows how to get my shit looking fresh to death. I only ever get my hair done when I fly back to D.C a few times a year. So worth it.

She gets in there with them coco butters and oils and shit and its like magic. She's never had to fight my hair.

I've gone to a black barber before. I told him "Pretty short on the top. A little shorter on the sides, but not so short I can see my scalp through it". That's literally my only criteria for any haircut BTW.

He performed admirably. I'm not fussy over my hair though. If you're one of those guys with a long list of things that need to be done with your hair, I probably wouldn't like you.

With the preponderance of chains, I'm not sure a "black" barber shop is so common anymore.

When I lived in parts of town that were predominantly african-american, I would go to the same Cost Cutters as everybody else, and the combination of black, asian, and white stylists would take customers on a first-come basis, and nobody seemed particularly put out.

There are 5 black barber shops in my town, my black friends are VERY particular about who cuts their hair. There's a better chance at the Indians getting the USA back than my friends going to a Cost Cutter. Chains give cheap hair cuts, which are good for people who don't have money or don't give a shit how they look. The black dudes I know are so particular that if you go to the shop most go to, they'll wait 2 hours for their barber to be free when there are 3 other barbers with open chairs the entire time they're waiting.

A Cost Cutters type chain will never do the extras, like razor line up the back of your neck and put alcohol on afterwards. Where I go, when you walk in there's a fridge and you grab a beer, we all bullshit and drink and a few times even a stripper was dancing around in a g string. You're not getting anything beyond a shitty cut at a chain shop.

I know, it's a black barber shop, white barber shops are boring. This one has a guy that will tailor your suit and one who sells Eye-Pods. It's much better than just a barber shop

if you want dirt cheap, nothing beats the asian shops.
$5 here in south philly and kensington area.
i've been going since 6 years ago. exact same result as a $25 haircut at those franchises like Hair Cuttery or whatever

My dad used to go to a Korean barbershop, but he'd come in every four weeks and the barber would always chastise him for not coming in every two, and the guy would spend most of his time asking about money matters and ranting about whatever, so now my dad goes to a white one. Are non-Korean barbers better?

I go to a local Russian owned barbershop. Been going there for a while but I hate it when the ladies there cut my hair because they can't get it right. The owner and another guy who is much younger does a great job though. They increased their prices to 15 bucks though and I've always tipped them 5 too.

Not much choice unless I want to go to hair cuttery then they want my email and my address and to sign me up nah I just want you to cut my damn hair.

The ignorance is strong in here. Of course you can.

It's a fair question. It's actually kinda like asking if you have dick cancer, should you go to a dermatologist?

No--of course not. You see a urologist and/or an oncologist.

There dermatologist might be able to help you and make a decent effort of it, but it just might be a rather bad idea.

Difference between "white hair" and "black hair" is quite different, and because of this, we have specialists. It's not that black barbers can't cut white hair and vice versa, it's that either one tends to have limited experience with the other.
