My dad used to go to a Korean barbershop, but he'd come in every four weeks and the barber would always chastise him for not coming in every two, and the guy would spend most of his time asking about money matters and ranting about whatever, so now my dad goes to a white one. Are non-Korean barbers better?

I once went to one around here--not sure if it was Thai or Vietnamese. couldn't tell. the one old lady in there was blathering on the phone for about 10 minutes before handing up and getting to me--yes we were the only two people in her barbershop at the time.

It was $14 cut advertised. Now, I tend to get my hair cut every 2-4 months or so. I let it get to the point where it just bothers me too much. It grows thick and long. Of course, there is always massive amounts of organic matter on their floor when I am done.

So 20 minutes later she is done cutting my hair and is like: 20 dolla! you have lots of hair!

I'm like wtf? I mean, I can see where you are coming form lady, but you didn't say that shit first. You can see I have lots of hair, and not a damn person came in during this time and held you up. what the fuck.

also--it was a terrible cut.

A lot of cultures don't really have the concept of fixed price. It's ALWAYS a negotiation.

I just do my own hair with clippers like once a month. I seem to alternate having it look good and fucking it up.

50/50 is better odds than most chain haircutterist places. Maybe I needs to find me one of these black barbers.

shit that sounds awesome.

do they also do real shaves?

yeap, takes about 40 minutes total. Starts with 2 super hot towels to soften up the hair. And ends with an even hotter towel that's been soaked in alcohol. It fucking HURTS but the end result is worth it. I get the trim + line up too so it's about an hour long process.

With that said they charge $25 for the shave + $11 if you want a line up + $11 if you want it trimmed. That's probably more than most ATOTers spend on hair cuts for a year lol.

My girlfriend cuts my hair. She's really good at it, too, and it means we get to sit around naked together. I make her do it naked.

I went to a black barber shop once and they directed me to the white barber shop down the block. They could tell right away I wasn't from around there and they were polite about it.

Sounds like I've been doing it wrong all these years. :(

I typically cut it myself. #2 All around and I need the GF to cut the back base of my skull for me. She hates doing it though. I mean it's like 2 minutes of work, but it's hard to get her to do it.... lazy ass woman I tell ya.

Its goddamn America, you can go anywhere you like. Just make sure to bring a gift, like some delicious Paula Dean Ooey Gooey Butter Bars.

I don't know that I've ever been to a "black" barbershop, but when I was 18 I used to get my hair cut at a Vietnamese place by my workplace. I took a trip to New York and got my hair cut at a chain place up there. When I went back to the local place, the guy started cursing in Vietnamese, brought the staff around to look at my hair, and asked me why I got my hair cut somewhere else.

I told him I was on a trip and he started telling me that whoever cut it didn't know what they were doing and that I should never get my hair cut anywhere else.

It's nice to see someone get so involved in their trade. Too bad the place is gone now.

Years ago I made the mistake of going to an African-American for a haircut. Never again, but I don't completely regret it either because I did get to bottom of why their hair smells like it does. It's some kind of chemical they use that smells like that, in a spray bottle. They spray it right on your head- & that day I smelled like an African-American for a little while LOL!

My dad used to go to a Korean barbershop, but he'd come in every four weeks and the barber would always chastise him for not coming in every two, and the guy would spend most of his time asking about money matters and ranting about whatever, so now my dad goes to a white one. I go to a Vietnamese guy, also once a month, and he gives me the exact same guilt trip! He charges so little, I guess more visits are expected. I should probably go more often, but it's almost an hour away now since I moved, kind of hard just to make it even when I need it. I make up for it with about a 75% tip. He really is worth it, has an unusual technique & most precise cuts I've ever had (almost every guy who comes in there requests him specifically & will wait as long as necessary, while according to him the other girls generally sit all day & just make their hourly, don't care to learn his technique). Though that's relative, I've never spent more than the thirty something dollar "master cutter" levels ripoff in the mall to compare- they're great, but I think mostly their art is just in the styling.

isnt that like a surgeon not knowing how to put a bandaid on?

I am not trying to go to no African-American surgeon either!

:awe:

lol I don't cheat, yet my guy does the same thing, except without the cursing, & he sticks to english. Just implies or asks knowingly "Someone else cut your haaaaaair?", while stepping out the logic for me- "it been long time, but hair not grow, hmmm."
