Hi, Im white, Can i go to a black barber shop?

black barber shops specialize in cutting that type of hair, which is very different from european type hair.

If they know how to do it, and you can take the barrage of jokes at your expense, then I say go for it.

isnt that like a surgeon not knowing how to put a bandaid on? i mean white hair is pretty simple

if you want dirt cheap, nothing beats the asian shops.
$5 here in south philly and kensington area.
i've been going since 6 years ago. exact same result as a $25 haircut at those franchises like Hair Cuttery or whatever

If you want a short cut, black barber shops are the best.

When I was in the Marines and always rocked a high and tight or a high reg, black barbers were by far the best. Absolute perfect fades.

maybe it depends on your hair and the type of cut, I guess. If you need the fade or buzz cut, probably the best place to go.

My hair is long, thick and dreamy like Rick Perry's hair, so maybe not the best for those barbershops. 😀

Second on the skill level, but for my hair/head I really can't do super-short cuts. I went to black/Latino barber shops a few times in the last few years, but the end result never looked right on me, despite the execution itself being pretty good.

Simple if you know how to cut it sure, every white barber shop I've been to uses mostly scissors and some clippers. I've never seen a pair of scissors in a black barber shop.

OP I speak from experience a black barber won't even touch you if they don't know how to fuck with Caucasian hair. It's vastly different from black hair. With that said, I know a lot of black barbers who are well versed. And from personal experience nobody cuts hair like a skilled black barber. They tend to have absolutely insane line up skills.

I am white...I visit a black specialist barber...I get a high and tight...we joke alot...we have a good rapport, and I tend to get 25% off because of me going there for a LONG time (8+ uears)

were you the only white guy there?

A few times. Never bothered me. I grew up in a predominantly black neighborhood. Some years in grade school I was the only white kid in my class. I don't freak out like some of my suburbanite yuppie friends do every time they talk to a black person. I don't try to "talk black" to fit in either like I have seen some idiots do. I'm basically myself and am very comfortable.

One big plus, this doesn't apply to every black barber shop. But most I've been in they're very honest and the patrons and other barbers will tell you if your hair cut looks fucked up. White shops they're far too nice and will lie thru their teeth and say "oh that looks real nice" when it looks like shit. Sometimes the truth hurts, but it's saved me a few times here.

I can agree with this. If I'm told I look good by a "stylist" at a typical white place, I don't really care, as it feels generic.

Though I've never been told I looked bad, one time I went to a black barber and he made a comment before hand that he never cut a white guys hair, as if I should be ready for something I wasn't going to be happy with.

When he was done, and before I got a chance to look at it, he took a step back and was like "damn, this cut actually looks pretty good on you", he was pleasantly surprised. I got up, looked in the mirror and was like shiiit, I look like a gawt dayum pussy magnet.

So your saying....once you go black you never go back?

Of course you can...but you MIGHT walk out looking like this:
