Hi, I am still here

Had a rough March, sick with some sort of horrible flu like illnesss, worked only 2 days at the hospital & have been out on leave of absence since then due to being at high risk for Covid. At this point I am out of vacation and sick time but...the risk is greater than any hardships.

I had a good CT scan in May 15th, no new growth, no mets, hoping to be able to resume cancer treatment soon. Boston got hit hard & Mass General figured not getting treatment was safer than having to go to the hospital

I am still alive, feeling weird even stepping out of my house even with a mask. Between the virus and the horrible situation in our country right now. Saddened & depressed beyond belief describes my mental status these days

Editing to add that Covid and Cancer is not a good mix,particularly for those of us receiving Immunotherapy treatment. OTOH, I crossed an important marker, over 5 years alive after a stage IV diagnosis. So, I sail in uncharted waters....always the outlier

My Oncologist is leaving in August, to be part of a research team for a drug company. Can’t blame her, she has small children but this feels like another big loss & I will miss her terribly.

I hear you about being an outlier. One of my best friends just celebrated 5 years completely cancer free - and she had pancreatic cancer. You are definitely a survivor extrordinaire and I applaud you.

It is possible though my symptoms didn’t match the pattern ...only an antibody test could say for sure & even that can result in false positive. I work a front facing job, people cough on me from all directions lol

I currently work in medical communications for oncology products (eg, making materials pharmaceutical companies use to communicate their science with physicians); it's been great to see the data and the advances that have been made across the cancer treatment space, but it's always more important to me to hear from the people that end up being treated with these therapeutics (since at the end of the day, my job is facilitates getting oncology drugs from the developers to the patients that need them)

I owe my life to science & cutting edge medicine. Opdivo has been like a miracle for me, I was pretty sick at diagnosis. I have had side effects, my thyroid left the building years ago, I have low grade eye inflammation, fatigue...but... I am still alive.

we talked about switching me to Keytruda in a dose given only once every six week. I currently get Opdivo every three weeks to try to cut down on the side effects ...we decided to continue riding the horse that brought me this far. Opdivo!

I can imagine this pandemic is making dealing with having cancer that much harder too.

l am fortunate to be treated at Mass General, my entire team has done telemedicine. What’s getting hard is how lonely I feel mixed in with a healthy fear of asymptomatic covid carriers.

I am an introvert by nature...but actually being afraid of being around people is new to me ...You should have seen the PPE donning & doffing process I used to get my CT, it was exhausting
