Do you really believe training is the reason? Honestly?

It's because these days Macs are no better than Windows machines, and when supplying an office with workstations why in the world would a company want to pay the Apple Tax and get the exact same machine for double the cost or more?

Do you really believe that Macs and PCs are "the exact same machine"? Honestly?

Lexus = Mac
Toyota = PC

Under the hood = same, practical application = same, actual user experience/cost = dramatically different

Yeah I could get behind that analogy, but I would do:

Ford = PC
BMW = Mac

One is marketed to everyone.
The other is marketed to those who can afford it as "the ultimate driving machine"

Rightly or wrongly, that equates to Microsoft and Apples marketing.

Wong. Macs are not marketed only toward the upper middle class.

Why do people never take build quality into account when comparing $100 dells to $2000 macs?

The same reason why people want low airfare prices, and then complain about fees being tacked on.

Also, I wonder what a Dell ends up costing if you add all the service and support offered by Apple with each Mac?

not different in America IMO

I can't imagine it is that much different.

Maybe you have to pay extra to speak to someone who speaks English with Dell :biggrin:

I meant from a spec point of view. 2gb of ram in a Mac is the same as 2gb of ram in a PC, a 2.5ghz cpu in a Mac is the same as a 2.5ghz cpu in a PC, yet the Mac will cost twice as much. Does that seem right to you? Are you claiming Mac innards are superior?

If I tell Apple to shove their support up their ass will they take $500 off of my order?

I do not need support, but I recognize that "average" users probably do.

...and now we're at normal PC v Apple debate

<insert obligatory PC v Apple arguments here>

The motherboards are custom as you can imagine, it runs an EFI not a bios and you pay extra for the innovative bits, the trackpad/ the power adapter. In all honesty though for me it could look like a piece of crap and I would pay the extra for the operating system.

IMO, Macs tend to use superior parts (think name-brand RAM vs. generic) and stand behind them. In that sense, yes.

Apple is no different than other manufacturers.. in terms of service.

I walked into an Apple store, dropped off my Mac Mini for repairs, and picked it up 2 days later.

Friend's iPhone was broken. He walked into an Apple store and 1 hour later walked out with a replacement.
