You're missing his point. They can absolutely argue for a harder line against Russia while still fetishizing Putin's leadership style, which is in fact what they did.

No, you're missing the point.

Contrary to the OP's assertion, neither Fox News, Republicans nor anyone else (except a few who believe RT reports/spin) "fell so in love with Vladimir Putin".

Putin was roundly denounced and vilified, not loved.

To say that those advocating developing a plan, having a vision and executing it are in a love fest with Putin is akin to saying those touting the benefits of a nation interstate system are in love with Hitler.

Hitler conceived the interstate system. We saw its value and we built one. Putin had a plan and the determination to execute it. Similarly to the interstate, some see a plan and determination as productive things we can adopt and use in our foreign policy.

Worked?

Russia sent troops in and took the Crimea and are now occupying Easter Ukraine, poised for more fighting.

Worked, seriously?

Fern

He grabbed Crimea before anything happened.

So, you're saying that you wished we had gone to war with Russia? That is what the repubs wanted, right?

Putin is bad but let's be real he's no hitler. And yeah the FOX news desk has an at least bi-weekly circle jerk where they talk about how much "leadership" Putin presents in person and how Obama should take tips from him.

Hey Fern, can you remind me which idiot said this:

“I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straightforward and trustworthy. We had a very good dialogue. I was able to get a sense of his soul; a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country.”

That's demonstrably false. His leadership is repeatedly praised. To quote Rudy Giuliani on Fox News:

"Putin decides what he wants to do, and he does it in half a day. Right? He decided he had to go to their parliament, he went to their parliament, he got permission in fifteen minutes. That’s what you call a leader."

Would you characterize that as an admiring quote or a critical quote?

To say that those advocating developing a plan, having a vision and executing it are in a love fest with Putin is akin to saying those touting the benefits of a nation interstate system are in love with Hitler.

That's not what was said at all, actually. They repeatedly praised his swift action, the muscle he flexed with the Russian Parliament, etc, etc. Those are most certainly not things like "having a plan", they are aspects of his personal, dictatorial regime that were described positively.

Sarah Palin on Fox:

"Obama, the perception of him and his ‘potency’ across the world is one of such weakness, Look it, people are looking at Putin as one who wrestles bears and drills for oil. They look at our president as one who wears mom jeans and equivocates and bloviates."

Look at all the non-praise of Putin!

Merkel on Putin's uselessness:

http://www.businessinsider.com/merkel-on-putins-masculinity-2014-11

Later, Merkel interpreted Putin's behavior. 'I understand why he has to do this — to prove he's a man,' she told a group of reporters. 'He's afraid of his own weakness. Russia has nothing, no successful politics or economy. All they have is this.'

In response to how Putin often tries to intimidate her by including his black labrador in their meetings (Merkel is terrified of dogs)

Putin is the Right's One Direction and Bieber in one smoldering man-package along with Putin's Man Tits. I bet these pundits even know his cup size. Fox news pundit's laugh in the face of danger. That's why every conservative pundit on Fox is a decorated war hero along with Ted Nugent with his Crap-My-Pants medal. These "journalist's" "looked into Putin's eyes" and could see "his soul".... a bully who thinks he knows best and all his critics and opponents are shills and liars. Putin is an autocratic right-wing nationalist, not a model for American conservatives.

Honestly I think Putin has been way out of his depth for a long time.

Hes making grand empty gestures for his domestic audience that just fall flat or land him in the shit with the international community. He just seems to not understand the basics of international politics at all.

Isn't he like 5'5" tall? Why are Russians so short and Swedish people, who live directly adjacent, so tall?

Putin is going to invade someone. His economy is fucked as long as oil stays cheap. He has zero industry, exports almost nothing and imports almost everything. The only thing Putin has going for him is the 3rd largest standing army on earth and his ICBMs to prevent us from retaliating. He will use the only thing he has to distract people from the economic collapse.

Mark my words, if oil doesn't improve he will invade somebody.

Hey, why not? It's worked for Republicans, GHWB, Reagan and GWB.
Of course righties admire Putin, he's a strong leader without a clue, just like their heroes GWB and Ronnie.

I don't really understand the republicans love of Putin. He doesn't support "small government", religion, or freedom. Maybe they do want a tyrant.

Barfing up words of admiration for Putin by the Repubs to hammer Obama with is pretty funny after all. It's got that perfect blend of backfiring and irony in it that's devastatingly sublime in nature. lol
