the Hewlett-Packard 315 Digital Camera at staples

Thank you for the tip.
Add a SanDisk 64MB CF card. Get $40/$200 Coupon (I am not allowed to tell you the Cpn#).

Now you get both Camera and CF for $110 after MIR

Couple of comments:

Looks like the HP318 is replacing this model. It has nearly the same specs (Both are 2.x MP), nothing better on the 318 that I could see.

Neither model has Optical Zoom.

[EDIT]The SANDISK 64MB Media (item 458644) has a $20 rebate and is priced @ $39.xx, so, it is possible to get it all for $110, you just have $70 in rebates out there[/edit]

It's about the size of a point and shoot.
I have heard mostly good things about it.
Bought one yesterday, just in case I couldn't get a WWW order through.

I will take it back, and wait for the shipped one.

Not too bad for 2.1 megapixel and 64meg ram

Not the best camera, but its better than a 1mp and about the same price as one, so with the 64mg of smartmedia to boot, GREAT deal.

Heck they sell at eBay for $140-150 all day.

Update, Cnet says it takes CompactFlash??

So might want to see who is right or wrong as staples has a special on 64mg Smartmedia and CompactFlash. Just get the right one if you plan on using it with this camera

UPDATE
Yea it looks like it uses CompactFlash, so don't get the smartmedia, get item# 450854
same price and also has a $20 rebate , so its still all good 🙂UPDATE

This seems to be the best camera for the money, but the HP support site states a weird issue. They say the following:

Microsoft (R) Windows 2000, Me, and XP
Memory cards greater than 32MB frequently generate an error message when used directly in Windows 2000, Windows Me, and Windows XP. Image transfer to the PC does not occur and the message states, camera does not contain any files. The cause of the issue is file format and its compatibility with the OS beyond 32MB. A high-quality card-reader is the best way to circumvent the incompatibility.

I have been reading a lot of reviews and I didn't see this mentioned anywhere. I am still going to get the camera, but it looks like I'll have to get a card reader to use my 128 MB Sandisk CF.

From what I read, don't use the camera USB option to transfer pic's. Battery drain is more there.
Get a reader, and move the card from camera to reader.

a year ago this camera alone cost $300, had it for a little while...actually bought one this morning but then changed my mind, because I don't really need a digital camera.

If you get ANY digital camera and plan on using it at ALL, then do yourself and your wallet a favor and get some rechargable batteries. You can get 4 AA and a Charger from Wal-Mart for around $20.

I just ordered the camera and here is how I put together my package:

Hewlett-Packard 315 Digital Camera
442639
1 day
$179.98

PNY CompactFlash USB Card Reader
471057
1 day
$19.98

Transparent Tape Self-Dispensers, Tape Refill, 1/2 x 500
MMM144A
1 - 3 days
$0.95

Subtotal:
$200.91

Coupon Code(s):
xxxxx: -$40.00

Shipping:
$0.00

*Total:
$160.91
-$50.00 rebate

$110.91 Final (plus tax on $160.91 I assume, but it did not show up on my order form)

I already have a 128 MB Sandisk CF card, so I ordered the card reader.

<< I think most are NiMH.

I think that is what Rayovac and energizer recharge batteries have. Look on the package.
>>

NiMH only way to go. 🙂

This is a great camera for that price. I bought one for my wife about 4 months ago. It is a great point and shoot camera. If you are looking for a lot of phrills this is not for you. But for 100 bucks it is a great 2.1 camera...very easy to use....

Camera doesn't seem to accept a 128 Mb generic (iodata corp) Compactflash that I bought from Fry's. Works fine with the included Sandisk 8 Mb card. Any ideas?

Snyder81, yes I did format the card. Pics store fine in the camera (I can review them on lcd) but cannot download them to my 'puter via usb. On pressing the Unload pics button, I get a message saying there are no pics in the camera ??????

I just picked up a camera at a B&M staples with a pricematch here for $145

Final cost
$145- 30off150 coupon(added $5 of items) - $50 rebate + tax

Also picked up rechargable batteries from compusa.
They have charger for 9.99 and 8 pack of NiMH bateries for 18.99
