Lots of back and forth on this, but here is what I have noticed. In the last few years I have not talked to anyone, Democrat, Republican, Independent, or even Foreign national, that did not already have a strong opinion about Trump, and those opinions are strong enough that I doubt there is much of anything that would change their opinion enough to change their vote.

The main thing I have noticed is that for the most part Democrats vote for a candidate while Republican vote against a candidate. Democrats win by having a candidate people like, Republican win by Democrats having a candidate people don't like. Who the Republican run is almost irrelevant. Democrats will say, 'I don't really like Democratic candidate so I'm not going to vote, or I will vote 3rd party, Republicans say 'I don't like Republican candidate, but what am I going to do let a Democrat win?'

I’m not sure what to say other than I think you’re confusing your desires with what voters want.

Can you show me any polling that shows voters want more conflict and direct attacks on Trump?
You need a poll to tell you members of a political party would like to see their party do well in a debate against terrible people by being factual but strong and by not backing down or being demure and breaking the facts down simply? Everybody wants to see their candidate do that.

I'm floored.

On the face of it all, look at how utterly insane it is for millions of conservative working class people to rest their hopes of having a better life by relying on the insatiable greed of their very wealthy landlords and political royalty that sneer behind their backs at these peasants who are dependent on them for nothing other than their psychological well-being.

Yet there they are, being exploited by their masters and convinced that things would be worse for them if they revolted. LOL

No, although your post gets at exactly what I'm saying - what members of a political party want and what a political party should do to win elections are often at odds with one another.

I'm sure Democratic party members would like nothing more than for someone to go debate Trump and soundly defeat him. I am of the opinion that 1) that probably wouldn't happen no matter who you choose and what format you want and 2) this would not help them win elections.

If anybody, ANYBODY from any source could provide evidence the guy actually did anything good for America I'd have changed my opinion years ago.

A televised debate with Trump over the 2020 election? Absolutely not. No way we should give his lies even more oxygen then they've already gotten. Not only that, but the very idea of a debate over the issue of "mass fraud" in 2020 tacitly gives legitimacy to the notion. This is why historians refuse to even engage Holocaust deniers. They don't want to give the impression that there is a legitimate "dispute" over the issue which even warrants the attention of real scholars.

Should climatologists "debate" climate deniers on national TV? No, and again, no, for the same reason.

And George Conway, a conservative critic married to a loyal Trump adviser, Kellyanne Conway, wrote: “Seriously, I usually don’t find it unsurprising when he says something that’s not inaccurate, but no one – not even the former guy – can be not correct all the time.”
