Right... That's why there are tons of teachers/professors and more who don't have jobs right now because it is summer break. There are plenty of people who don't have jobs at your hours either. >_>

Doesn't matter anyway. Servers are busted right now so no one can play.

They update the game quite frequently. Never takes that long.

I've never heard of DoTa until now. What is HoN like? Can you guys compare it to something or explain it? The videos on youtube have got me very interested. It looks like something I would enjoy!

HoN is like DoTa with better graphics, a friendlier interface, and better game options.

Basic gameplay is that each team has a base and there are 3 lanes that connect the bases. Every 10 seconds or so a wave of NPCs spawns in your base and travels along the lanes.
You select a hero at the start and you control that hero throughout the game. Heroes belong to 3 types - int, str, agi. Among the heroes, there are a variety of archetypes based on their role (support, killing heroes, killing NPCs/towers) and when they're strongest (early, mid, late game). Your hero gains xp from NPC or hero kills. When you level up you get a skill point. Each hero has 3 skills and an ultimate skill.
Your hero is customized based on what skills you get (the order), and what items you get. Each hero can hold 6 items to customize their stats and attacks.
Items are purchased using gold. Gold is obtained by killing heroes and NPCs. Importantly, gold is only obtained by getting the last hit on the enemy. One component of DotA/HoN is last hitting and denying (last hitting your allies to prevent the enemy from earning gold). Items can greatly change the power of your hero.

It's not particularly comparable to any game I'm aware of (there are games that copy DotA like demigod and league of legends), but being good at micro is a part of doing well at DotA. The other half--macro--requires a lot of DotA-specific knowledge of heroes' abilities, item effects, and team strategies. As a result, the learning curve is particularly steep. Be prepared to fail horribly and get yelled at for your first 10 or 20 games.

Thanks for the overview!

So nothing carries over from game to game? How long do the games last?

Is it just one map? Seems like that might get boring after awhile. I dunno, Ill definitely give it a go when I get home from work.

The only persistent thing are your stats (wins, losses, hero kills, hero deaths, assists, etc.) Games last 30-40mins usually. There are a few maps, I think there are 3 right now. Due to the huge number of heroes it definitely doesn't get old. The variation comes in how the game unfolds. It's like asking if chess is boring because you're using the same pieces and board each time (no, I'm not comparing HoN/DotA to chess).

I have 3 invites. First 3 people to PM me will get it.
They must match the following criterion: join date > 1 year ago, > 500 posts, e-mail visible in profile. Those are my arbitrary rules, they aren't changing.

So today for my 14th game I figured out that you can pick any hero, not just the half on your side. I was wondering why I was seeing heroes on different sides in different games.
