Been having a problem with my computer, it has been driving me nuts for over a month now. Here is what I had first of all:

Abit KT7-Raid
Amd Tbird 800
SB Live Value
IBM deskstar 75gxp
256meg pc133 ram
Asus v7700 Geforce II gts 64 pure
Windows XP Pro

The problem I am having regards games.. I can play Wolfenstein and Unreal Tournment fine but I tried to use 3dmark2001se, unreal 2003, tony hawk 3 and a couple of other games and the graphics are all messed up.. when it starts displaying the menu or in game everything is out of place and flashing, you can't make out the picture.

Here's what I done:

First of all I thought it was software related.. so I formatted/re-installed Windows XP.. didn't help. Tried the det 20's, 30's and 40's for my video card and none of them made any difference. So I took it to a local computer shop.. they tried another geforce in it and an ati radeon.. they all did the exact same thing. They also tried flashing the bios, tried new ram, new power supply and tried it with all the other pci cards removed. They also tried it in Windows 2000.. still did the same thing.

So, they thought it must of been a bad agp slot on the motherboard.. so I got a new Abit kt7-raid board and the same problem happened. They sent that back and got me an ECS k7s5a board.. same thing on that as well. I also have a brand new power supply in it.

So basically it's not the motherboard, ram, video card, OS or drivers. What the heck else could this problem be? Is it possible that the CPU could be causing this? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using pirated software? That would cause this.

I don't think a CPU would cause this, although it could be a chipset issue. If you still had that Abit motherboard, I'd reccomend updating to the latest VIA 4in1 drivers(they fixed a few oddball probs), but you now have a K7S5A which uses a SIS chipset. You may want to try using a different sound card, since you now have motherboard with onboard sound, just pull out the soundblaster and enable the onboard audio. btw, make sure it is disabled while using the soundblaster.

It could also be the monitor, but I think the local shop would have diagnosed that. Did they use your monitor, or there own?

Ok.. the software is not pirated.. and most of these games did work before at one point. I don't think it's the soundcard because first 3dmark2001 doesn't use the soundcard at all and second, the shop said they pulled all the cards. When I did have the abit board I tried many of the via 4-in-1's.. doubt thats the problem though.. it's doing it on a via and sis chipset.. plus it always worked before with whatever via 4-in-1's I had on the abit board. The shop was testing it with their monitor and it was happening there too.. so it's not my monitor either..

The only thing left seems to be the CPU.. I just find it strange that the cpu would cause a problem like this..

.. just finished trying the james bond nightfire demo and it has the problem as well.

From what I read it sounds like you tried eveything but changing out the CPU, so the only conclusion I can make is that it's the problem although that's not normal.

Guess i'm gonna have to try a new cpu in it and see what happens. This is a very strange problem indeed.. didn't know the cpu could cause a problem like this.. well... maybe.. I'll let ya's know how it turns out

Lol they changed the PSU!? What does that have to do with graphics? Look at the pattern, all < DX 7.0 games seem to work, but when he plays DX 8.0 games they "flash" and dont display properly. Try popping in a DX 8.0 compatible video card. I could be wrong, but thats my 2 cents

Well.. I use to be able to play unreal 2003, sof II, and some of the other games that dont work fine before with my GeforceII GTS... i'm sure the game's should with with the card..
