I'm starting to think your goal in life is to be a two time loser lifer, and the quickest way there is just to bang away on the keyboard.

Great! For future reference if you have any thoughts about my life, or my goals etc then feel free to PM me about them rather than trolling an unrelated thread.

You're saying you'd like to give me pointers via PM? How much? I assume you won't be giving away the only thing of "value" in that thick skull of yours.

No, I'm saying if you have pointers for me PM me rather than derailing an unrelated thread.

The 53% who actually pay taxes should continue carry the load for these dead beats who don't want to contribute to their government.

If anything, we need more a la cart government services at the state/local level.

Only 53% of America pay taxes? How does that work?

Well, my guess is they were already on public assistance - I mean, they live in a double wide (cheap) out in BFE (cheap)... it sounds like they didn't own the property and had the trailer on the mother's land.

As far as raising taxes go, good luck getting the people who vote to raise taxes - these people voted to create the current system. There is no THEY that you speak off. Most local governments can't unilaterally raise taxes as they see fit.

I agree fire protection is a basic service, in this case the people in that area have determined the cost to be $75 per house per year. I'm not saying to let the house burn down but the mayor has a point after all. These fire fighters have to be paid, the trucks have to be maintained, the water network has to be maintained. The cost was determined and applied. Pay up!

Given that the fire protection was voluntary I think you it's fair to let the house burn down. I just don't think it makes any sense to have fire protection be voluntary because the town is going to send a truck there anyway and will likely end up paying for consequences one way or another.

It DOESN'T make sense that it's voluntary, BUT, since the residents of the rural area have voted to not fund a fire department of their own, who's going to pay for the service? Should the city just stop service at the city limits and not provide the service to those who live outside their jurisdiction? That would certainly put an end to the problem...

You don't pay insurance after an accident. If that's the case it wouldn't be insurance. The homeowners took the risk of not paying for insurance and they got burned. Firefighting isn't a free service.

Firefighting is not an Insurance.

Those people have no right to call themselves Firemen.

They are a disgrace to an Institution.

LOL, America.

Embarrassing is what it is.

I would think that home insurance companies would want to put a stop to this practice asap in order to minimize their losses. They have a powerful lobby, so they should be able to make it happen.

Does a doctor in an emergency room not try to save your life if you're having a heart attack because you didn't pay your health insurance? No, they save your life, then send you the entire bill.

Fire protection should work the same way. Didn't pay your annual due? They should stilll put out the fire, then bill you for the service, say $1000. If it's not paid, it can go on a lien against the property, same as if you didn't pay the property taxes or other assessments. The house couldn't be sold without paying off the lien, so they'd get their money sooner or later.

Put a lien on a property that is not part of your city/jurisdiction? They can't legally do that.

No life was in jeopardy, if there was, the fire department would have stepped in.

The main thing is that these people generally get a notice in the mail informing them of a yearly fee and what it covers. They then opt to not pay the fee and save $75.

I am sure that anyone in this thread would tell you if their taxes didn't provide fire department coverage, they would pay a yearly fee.

The people that voted for this method weren't smart.
